Afaik the Vita Slim or Vita 2000 is available in the UK and I am considering to get one because you have to admit, as gorgeous as the OLED may be, sometimes the red and the blue (not so much as red but still noticable) bother you because they are too saturated. It's more a bother when you watch a movie or an anime. If you have an overall greyish picture from a movie and then something red appears it sticks out.

Plus the blackish stains on the OLED (you know what I mean) can be a bother too with them very noticable on dark objects.

So with that being said, who has gotton themselves a Vita Slim and can report about their experience with it compared to the original model?

There are multiple videos of comparisons and reviews all over the web, ever since it officially launched in Japan and people started exporting them. Might as well just look at those, should have more than enough info on whether it's worth it or not.

EDIT: Though the general consensus (from what I've read) is that the Vita 2000 is nice, but isn't exactly "better" than OLED. They both have flaws and perks, and both are plain great handhelds. If it it were me, I'd still go with the OLED since none of the changes on the 2000 really effect me in any way (I'm not going to be without an outlet for 6 hours with my Vita, so the extra battery life is useless. I like digital releases compared to physical, so the 1GB of internal storage is useless etc etc).

Since the release of the new Vita model is right around the corner, I'm gonna go ahead and give this a bump. I've seen a bunch of video footage, and in practically every context, the old screen looks better than the new screen. The problem with that is it's a video and not real life. Anyone have both that can give their insight?

if you prefer more vivid colors, and blacker blacks, get the oled screen. If you prefer a screen with more accurate colors, get the lcd.

Hey folks! After about a month of obsessive package-tracking, nervous "what-ifs", and general international shipping neurosis, I'm happy to report that my White/Blue Vita 2000 has arrived safe and sound at my doorstep!

Here are the Glorious Meaty Facts™:

-The Vita 2000 is slimmer and sleeker, but in an understated way.
This new Vita model has lost some weight and a few precious millimeters of girth, but it's more of a tummy-tuck, rather than full-blown gastric bypass. If we could ask the Vita 2000 about its weight loss, it'd probably say "I did it for me." Good for you, Vita 2000!

Yes, the new model isn't a vast departure from its predecessor, but there's iterative improvement across the board. The Vita 2000's physical design has been given a Chris Sanders-esque polish to be rounder, smoother, and generally more friendly to hands that hold it. The shoulder buttons, while still feeling much as they did in the old model, also seem to have been adjusted to be more responsive and springy. Furthermore, the Home, Start and Select buttons are now more pronounced and "button-y", and are much easier to press when compared to the old model's strange, non-raised whatsits.

The rear touchpad has been given some extra love and attention, too. The Vita 1000 sported a rear touchpad that was large and in charge, occupying the vast majority of the device's "rear estate." So much, in fact, that many found themselves with little room to rest their fingers, and as such, little room to hide from the rear touchpad's omnipresent thirst for human digits. The Vita 2000 has a shrunken, less-assertive back touchpad for more finger room and less accidental presses.

All of these subtle improvements make the Vita 2000 a bit nicer to hold and use. Unfortunately, it's still unarguably a device that was designed without beefy hands in mind. If you're in this boat, you may still have a tough time getting your mighty mitts to play nice with the Vita 2000's tiny buttons and compact control layout, which are unchanged from the previous revision. Thankfully, there are grip peripherals for the Vita 1000 (and presumably 2000, as they become available) that can alleviate this problem and even add extra battery life, at the expense of portability.

Overall: The Vita 2000's aesthetics and ergonomics have been given a welcome tune-up, but the device still isn't suited for hulk-hands.

-Come on in, the screen's just fine!
It's easy to succumb to the mass-internet-hysteria surrounding the Vita 2000's "downgraded" display technology. Upon release, the original Vita was the subject of immense praise and salivation due to its distinguished OLED screen. Truly, the display was a darling among users and critics, who would often cite it as "bright," "crisp," "intoxicating," and countless other qualitative buzzwords used to describe wine.

So if the screen received such gushing acclaim, how could Sony possibly have the audacity to ditch it in favor of the more conventional LCD in the Vita 2000? How could they do this to us?

Thankfully, online reactions to the Vita 2000's LCD have been predictably hyperbolic. While side-by-side photo comparisons may paint an unflattering picture of the Vita 2000's screen, the difference is significantly less apparent when viewed through your own two sight-balls. After directly comparing both Vita revisions, I'm happy to say that the Vita 2000's LCD screen is by no means worse, it just has its priorities in different places.
The Vita 1000's OLED was notable for its deep, saturated colors, bathing everything onscreen in a saccharine color-soaked sheen that, while dazzling, could sometimes compromise color accuracy in its indulgence. The Vita 2000's LCD shows a bit more restraint, sporting more natural hues than its eccentric predecessor. This inevitably means a compromise in color intensity, but to those who weren't fond of the Vita 1000's exorbitant gamut, this slight saturation adjustment is just what the doctor ordered.
(Oh! Also, it's important to note that many of the screen differences I've described are really only discernible in a side-by-side comparison. When using the device as one normally would, most would probably never even pay any mind to them.)

Screen brightness is another noteworthy point. Both Vita models are bright, brilliant, and bodacious in indoor lighting, but the Vita 1000 flounders as soon as one steps outside. With the Vita 2000, you can have a bit more fun in the sun, as its LCD seems to handle outdoor lighting fairly better than its predecessor.
Also, night owls may have noticed that the Vita 1000's screen could be a tad overbearing in low-light environments, even on the lowest brightness setting. The Vita 2000 is thankfully more merciful in this regard, as its minimum brightness is much dimmer, allowing late-night gaming sessions without eyestrain.

Finally, Because Vita 2000's screen uses LCD technology, it suffers from none of the quirks inherent in the Vita 1000's OLED screen, such as the strange "mura" screen splotches that were visible when the screen displayed dark colors.

Overall: The Vita 2000's LCD isn't a downgrade by any means, and when compared to its predecessor, visibility is actually better in the sun and dark. If you're sticking your nose up to the Vita 2000 because it doesn't have an OLED, you're being silly!

-Other Thoughts and Tidbits:

-Owners of the Vita 1000 will find that the Vita 2000's battery is one of its most welcome improvements. Sony claims the battery lasts about an hour longer than the previous model, but from my experience, it's closer to an hour and twenty minutes longer. Not bad, really.

-Hot dog! The Vita 2000's speakers are very much improved from its predecessor's. Everything sounds much clearer, and it can crank out considerably louder output at maximum volume. The Vita 1000's sound is certainly still serviceable, mind you, but it all sounds a bit muffled in comparison. None of this really matters if you're a kool kat that uses headphones all the time, but it's worth mentioning.

-The Vita 2000's white varieties really help hide smudges and fingerprints. If you plan to take your Vita out on a romantic dinner at KFC, you can bet that a black model is going to look a lot sorrier than a white model by the end of the endeavor.

-From the onset, the Vita has always had a nasty hidden cost: Sony's separately-sold, shamelessly-overpriced proprietary memory cards. Without one, a Vita 1000 is unable to download digital titles, or even save progress for physical games! With its 1GB of onboard storage, the Vita 2000 alleviates this egregious predicament to a small degree. Those who buy physical games will get on fine, as game saves are often no more than a few MB at most. However, if you're looking to scratch that digital download itch, picking up a memory card is still essential, as some Vita games can weigh in at as much as 4.5GB, more than four times as much as the Vita 2000's internal storage offers!

-In contrast with Nintendo's pedigree of hardy, rock-solid handheld miracles, Sony's devices have always had a stigma for being fragile, dainty scratch-magnets. The Vita, unfortunately, does little to buck this trend. As such, proper protection is in order, regardless of which model you plan to get. Screen protectors and a sturdy case will keep your lovely new toy out of harm's way.

-In conclusion:

The Vita 2000 is a nifty little revision that smooths out some of the warts of its predecessor. Owners of the previous model will notice countless tiny improvements, and you'll really come to appreciate the extra attention as you use it. If you're happy with the previous model, it's questionable whether you should pony up for this new one. But for newcomers, as well as those who had their qualms with the Vita 1000, this might just be the extra "oomph" you need to join the Vita club!

-Obligatory Comparison photos:
IMG_1497.jpg
The Vita-1000 (top) sits warmly with its upgraded companion (bottom). Could it be love?
IMG_1500.jpg
Eager to impress one another, the two young devices each put on their best display of brightness, shining with all their might. Though he tried his best, the Vita 1000 is easily smitten by his counterpart's better outdoor lighting.
IMG_1502.jpg
Exhausted by their showmanship, they decide to lie and rest, just for a moment. As they stare at the clouds, they are blissfully unaware of Iwata, who is watching from afar, gently smiling at the two lovers.
IMG_1504.jpg
Suddenly, the two are stirred awake by a shrill voice.
"Good day!" squawked the Gameboy Pocket. "I'm sorry to disturb, however I couldn't help but be swayed by allure of your lovely viewing angles and shining, gossamer finish."
"Please, I implore you, leave us be," grumbled the Vita 1000. "We are not interested in associating with ones who are not backlit."
The two Vitas, hoping to escape from their unwarranted guest, fled to the nearest cave.
IMG_1505.jpg
"Surely he won't manage to find us in here," panted Vita-2000, trying desperately to catch her breath.
"Undoubtedly. We are safe, for certain." wheezed Vita-1000, who had not sprinted so desperately in quite a while. "My love, I was not aware that you had small a red light to the right of your screen."
IMG_1509.jpg
"I'm afraid I haven't any idea what you are talking about, my love," said the Vita 2000. "I know not of any red light on my person."
"But if that red light is not yours, it must be the Gameboy Pocket's power light," gasped the Vita 1000. "My, he must have followed into this cave, and is attempting to avoid detection with his lack of backlight!"
And with that, the two Vitas attempted to darken their screens in order to hide from the perp. While the Vita-2000 could easily dim her screen, the Vita-1000 could only shine bright, even on his lowest setting.
"It is no use!" screamed the flabbergasted Vita-1000. "I am as bright as a bulb, however I try! We must flee this cave, and run from this horrible Gameboy Pocket until we can run no more!"
IMG_1510.jpg
And run they did. They ran for days, upon weeks, upon months but to no avail, as the Gameboy Pocket always followed close behind. Finally, the two Vitas could no longer run, and, taking their last breaths, collapsed into the flowerbeds together.
IMG_1512.jpg
And so ends the tragic tale of the Vita-1000...
IMG_1513.jpg
...and his darling companion, the Vita-2000.

I'm hoping the difference between the two isn't nearly as bad as it seems in comparison photos and videos. A lot of people said that colors are truer on the LCD, but in those comparison shots, they always have some kind of hue that seems less true than true. I pre-ordered the new model today, however, so I'm really hoping for the best. I better hurry up with Conception II on the 3DS so I can get started immediately on P4G.

It'll be fine! In my opinion, comparison shots/vids make both models' screens look nasty, honestly. The blue and yellow tints you see in photos of the Vita 1000 and 2000 (respectively) aren't really present when you see the screens for yourself.

Say, how're you liking Conception II? I've been hearing good things, so I might nab that one, even if those sorts of games aren't usually my cup o' tea. The premise alone was enough to get my attention! :P

I sure hope so. That yellow tint shown in the thumbnail for this comparison video is what set me off at first:

Conception II's pretty fun so far. It's got its ups and its downs, but so does every game. I'm about 35 hours in. It's one of those games that start off easy then ramp up difficulty pretty quickly. It's also one of those games where, so long as you have MP, you're fine. Since you can leave dungeon floors at any level with no repercussions, you'll be safe. You can also save at any time, so that also brings the difficulty down a bunch too. It's a fairly standard dungeon crawler, except for the visual novel/dating sim aspects. So long as you don't have a problem with teenage girls talking to you about their feelings, you'll be alright.

It seems like the Vita 2000 is now available at certain stores. Although I did not see the bundle, I did see Borderlands 2 at my Target.
