How are they linked?

Shenmue doesn't make any $ for Sega, so why would they still want the franchise(no official merchandise, HD collections, spinoffs...). But for Crapcom, Mega man has more fans and still make $ from it even if there are no new games, so they will not be thinking of selling the franchise that is less dead than shenmue.

I never understand why people think Nintendo would solve the problem. These days all Nintendo is doing is focusing on Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong franchise. Highly doubt Nintendo would start making Megaman game.

Capcom wouldn't give up on Megaman that easily though. The Classic and X series are money maker for Capcom. Unless Nintendo decides to buy the entire Capcom, they would never get their hands on one of their IP. Even if they do, they most likely wouldn't bother with Legend series, which has poor sales record.

Keiji could ask Capcom to license the Megaman and Legends trademarks to him to make a 3rd game and fund it himself (or use crowdfunding again). Unless Capcom has a grudge or ego problem.
