So I hate hearing the Xbox 360's Disc drive running when I play games.
Because of this I install ALL games that use a Disc.

Unfortunately in the case of GTA V there is an install disc and a play disc. Rockstar's official website says it will decrease performance if the play disc is installed to the same source as the install disc. Digital Foundry did tests and found installing to a separate source (usb) has the same performance as the disc drive as long as the play disc is installed to that usb where the install disc is on the main HDD.

My question is the following : Will a basic SanDisk 16GB 2.0 usb have about the same performance as a disc drive or should I use a real external HDD?

Ha, somethings are missing on the usb install. Look at 0:36 (somewhere around here at-least...) for the comparison.

Ugh no? I see everything there... But that is not really related to what I'm asking.
I guess the proper question is what tool does the temp recommend to test USB read speed?

Wrong, some of the water reflection is gone.

If you hate noise, install both discs.
If you can't stand the extra second of loading time then don't.

I dun see the big deal in it tbh.

I don't give too shits about loading time. It can take x1000 longer if the framerate is more stable. I really prefer to buy GTA games for PC when they become $5, but I got this game for $3 so I could not pass it up. I buy them for PC because I like my 60fps damnit!
The problem is the framerate, I don't care about the graphics. and master801 I did not notice until you pointed it out specifically. I really wish I could just turn off most of the useless effects such as the water completely. I don't give too shits what it looks like as long as my game is solid >:o

Isn't it possible that it's just random and the water in that area at the time the right video was captured just happened to be less choppy? If you look down in the bottom right, you do see that wavy water there.

Here's a video showing that you just shouldn't do it, as you'd have performance issues:

That's if you install both of the discs to the same drive, he's talking about installing the install disc to one drive and the play disc to another drive. He just wants to know if his 16gb flash drive is fast enough or if he needs an actual external HDD to install to.

And the real answer was "I played the whole game on ps3", of course it is going to be better.

I really don't want this to turn into a Xbox 360 VS PS3 scenario. Both consoles suck for games like GTA. They handled GTA III great but IV and V not so much. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are nearly identical with their low FPS. (which thankfully is constant vs GTA IV's random drops.
