Hi guys, I've been away from the forums for a long time and have lots of questions, hope someone can help me.

First of all, I haven't updated my 3DS in a while, I'm on 7.1.0-14U. (My DS flashcard is old)

I live in México but have accessed the US eShop for things like the Netflix app that doesn't work here, and I haven't registered a NNID or accesed Miiverse or eShop in a while because I heard that if I register to México, I will lose the ability to enter the US eShop and vice versa, I haven't been able to download pokebank for this same reason...
Any tips on this?

And I just found out that I can register my systems and games and get a free digital copy of Pokemon X or Y, if I already have X, is it a good idea to download the same version and copy the save file to the digital copy and sell the physical one, or should I just download Y and keep the X version?

To be able to register with Club Nintendo I'll be using my aunt's address from Texas, and I guess I will permanently lose access to the Mexican eShop and all that...

I don't know if I'm over-thinking it or is it really THAT complicated...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

First of all, are you sure the save from the retail version can be transferred to the digital version?
Second, if you set your 3DS to the USA region, you won't miss much from the Mexican eshop, the titles are the same, you just won't be able to use Nintendo Video.
Source for that is that I'm using USA as my region while living in Mexico.

But if you've done a lot in your game, I'd recommend just keeping the one you have and selling/exchanging the free code for another game.

I believe the Save data transfer tool does what I want, and since it's the game I play most, it makes sense to always have it on hand digitally...

And since you're using the US eShop from Mexico, do you have Netflix working? I know it's not on our eShop so that's why I want to keep the US one, in case there's an update.

And if I bought a couple of games from the Mexican eShop, if there's an update released, will I be able to get them?

I haven't used Netflix, so I couldn't tell you, as for downloaded games, I have bought games with both the USA region and back when I had it set to Mexico and I can still redownload the games I previously bought, although none of them have had updates so I can't tell you about that.
The biggest problem is, if you have funds in your 3DS while set to Mexico, you need to spend them before you set it to USA and register a NNID, because they'll be lost otherwise.

I paid the exact amount with a credit card so no lost funds.
So I guess the only thing that I'll be missing is Nintendo Video, but they're killing it next month anyway...

And thanks for helping!

You're welcome.
I just checked and both Netflix and Hulu Plus are USA and Canada only, but there's nothing we can do about that either way.

Just redeem the code without creating the NNID. After you have downloaded your free copy of Pokemon, change the country of the 3DS again to Mexico and then create the NNID.

I live in Brazil and due to the high prices of my country's eShop I have a canadian account linked to my 3DS. I wonder if a download from US (bought from GameStop for example) would work on my "canadian" eShop account. I know for a fact that eShop credit/money cards will not work since they are specific for each country but I had hopes that it would be different regarding the code for specific games. Does anyone have any clue about this?

I thought codes were specific for each region and not each country. Like, codes from the UK work on my portuguese account, canada and the us are the same region, same for south america as well.

There are a couple of ways that you can get Netflix and Hulu on the 3DS working even if you don't reside in the USA or Canada. The more straight forward way is to hook your Wireless Router up to a US or Canada based VPN. This is the best solution since it should circumvent any region locking limitations but it also requires a bit of technical proficiency with setting up your router and may not even possible if your router does not support VPN connectivity.

Since we are only talking Netflix and Hulu here, a simpler solution might be to use a Free DNS Redirection Service such as SmartDNSProxy.

Just create a free account on their site then log-in so that your IP Address can be linked to your account, then change the Primary and Secondary DNS Servers on the Internet Settings of your 3DS and you should be good to go. The entire process shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes.

You might need to log back in to their site though if your IP Address changes, which can be a pain depending on how frequently your ISP forces you to change your IP Address.

Sell the digital copy ;)
You'll get a code for it.

I have a mexican 3DS (region set as Mexico) and I have been wondering the same thing. I have already downloaded Club Nintendo games with the "US exclusive download code" without a problem, though I also thought of buying games at GameStop and redeeming them on my 3DS. Did you try a code?
