I was wondering if anyone has ever modded one of the shells that came with the M3 Lite Perfect? Mine didn't come with the GBA shell and I really want to make it fit in my GBA but I'm not sure how.

How comes not everyone comes with a GBA shell? Was there specific versions purchasable, or did they just stop adding shells after time?

I'm sure there's a way you can mod it. You'd have to open up the shell and examine how you'd need to carve it into shape to fit a GBA slot. If that shell can't be carved, maybe get a real GBA game shell and modify that?

Some shops stripped all packaging and extras Lemmy Koopa, sadly this did sometimes include extra shells and such like.

I can not say I have modded an M3 but chances are there will be no things on the side the need filing away so looking at the pictures you are probably left with the little lip that makes it look like a proper dust cover and the raised edged where you would pull against to remove it from the GBA slot. You will want a way to get it out and using a screwdriver to lever it is not fun so I tend to suggest affixing a piece of ribbon or tape to the cart as a crude tag of sorts to pull it out with.

Well, it's because the GBA shell wasn't included in the first run of the M3 Lite (Perfect), it was just 3 shells. Later runs included 5 shells and a GBA shell. Thanks for the tips, I'll just try grinding off the slip and a piece of paper or something to get it out of there. I wish I still had an original GBA game but I'm not sure it'd fit in its shell and I wasn't able to find my originals in the attic.

So, I found a couple of my original carts and there's no way to fit the board in there, even if you sand away the small clips to hold original GBA boards. The M3 Lite board isn't perfectly flat on either side, so you'd need extra space in the cart if you want the connectors flush against it (as is the case with the original M3 shells).

The height of a regular GBA cart is about 43 mm, the M3 DS Lite shells are about 30 mm and even if I pushed the M3 in a DS Lite shell all the way down (with the lip and the sides filed away so I could push it in all the way), I wasn't able to do it without having a way to pull the cart back up. So in the end, I figured I'd have to attach something on top of an M3 DS Lite shell to do this. My brother found an old placeholder shell that I got with my DS Lite replacement case and then we just superglued everything together. It works fine now! :D

I really wanted to make this fit in a regular GBA(SP) but I'd still rather have something that's the size of a normal GBA cart. I also have an EZ-Flash II Powerstar 512 Mbit but I love how the M3 Lite is just drag 'n drop and supports MicroSD. Not sure what I'll do next, maybe I'll get an EZ-Flash IV MiniSD and just use the EZ-Flash II for RTC games so I can just use my M3 Lite on a DS Lite (I still have extra shells and it's easy to get it out of this frankencase). I'm also not so sure the EZ-Flash IV will be around that much longer, hardly any shops are still selling it and it's the last decent GBA solution that you can still find.

the m3 team once told me that the gba sized shell was not provided for resellers. if they wanted to include it they had to order it separately. which is why its a little more rare.

No offense to anyone who purchased the M3 light, but I don't see what's the big deal about a barely noticeable amount of the cart sticking out. I think an M3 Micro SD would be fine. I have a M3 regular SD and that probably wouldn't bother me either.

The only ice breaker that was for me was obviously the CF vs SD. CF is definitely too big, but at the same time, it could hold higher than 2GB per card.

Did they run out of non lite M3's or did you guys just really wanted one for just your DS lite?

I probably should not answer as that is dangerously close to an aesthetics question (short version is we call me to make things a) work or b) figure out how they work but never to make them look pretty).

Still the late GBA/early DS era and the flash carts that resulted was an odd one- proper GBA carts (like the EZ2 and EZ3) were still fairly available, indeed it is presumably why we got the likes of the EZ4 lite compact, supercard rumble and m3 professional that sacrificed most GBA ability to have DS code run, and as GBA emulation had always been good things wavered a bit, doubly so once the nopass and DS slot stuff took off. Looking back there were some interesting, for want of a better term, fads where fairly trivial (at least once cheats were available for all) things became deciding points for flash carts.
For what it is worth I reckon I should have picked up more proper GBA carts and Another World has expressed similar sentiments at various points as frankly most did not expect GBA carts to drop off as quickly as they did (many would argue the main reason the EZ4 is still around is because of something of a concerted effort on the part of several sites and individuals to have the EZTeam stop pondering making another batch and actually doing it).

As for still finding an EZ4- it is getting harder and mainly because the older shops that carry the stock are slowly giving up but I imagine you will still be able to pick one up for a while as it seems most would be flash cart owners have been trained by the DS and consoles to expect things for the price of a couple of pizzas. P.S. as for the EZ2 the 512Mbit versions are one of the most highly sought after carts out there and though it may not be drag and drop virtual machines have great passthrough options and most halfway modern machines can run a very cut down version of XP at the cost of a couple of gigs of hard drive space- I just checked and my IE8 virtual machine which is kind of cut down XP sits at 2.19 gigs.

I got my M3 Lite for free when I purchased a G6 Real from an ex-staffer here. I like how it's pretty much the only flashcart for the NDS Lite that sits flush, supports all GBA games and has a RTC.

I like my EZ-Flash II a lot but since it takes quite a while to finish flashing and it has a lot less space than SD-based solutions, I wanted to get a new flashcart for my GBA and GBA SP.
To be honest, I'm not sure how much longer you'll be able to purchase an EZ-Flash IV. In fact, the only place I know of that still sells them is http://www.flashlinker-shop.com/ez-flash-iv-minisd-slot-2-gba-gbm-sp-nds-nds-lite-p-443.html and even they are running out of stock. I got a lead on someone locally who's willing to sell his, along with a GBA, for a very decent price but I'm still waiting for a reply so it could be gone. If it is, I'm definitely getting one from flashlinker-shop before I miss my chance. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best GBA flashcart out there, the only con is that it doesn't have a RTC but I got my EZ-Flash II and M3 Lite for that.

flashlinker-shop have been around for years (they used to be rbenda.de) and I highly respect them so I will certainly not discourage you from buying from there but

http://www.r4ds-ds.com/products/EZ-Flash-iV-mini-GBA-Card-For-GBA-gameboy-advance-sp-p-239.html
http://store.freelyspace.org/ezmini-flash-ezflash-4-iv-minisd_p730.html Edit- ah yes they appear to be out of stock.
http://shop.01media.com/brand.asp?ID=434 (now one of the only places to get a lite deluxe)

Flashlinker-shop and shop.01 are long standing shops with great reputations, the others I have no real experience with (although freelyspace seem not to be making the very best name for themselves).

As for RTC I can see why the EZTeam dropped it post EZ3 and would probably even agree with the decision (space is tight on PCB, it is a nice drain on the battery, patches are mostly available and do well for the handful of games that used it) but on the other hand I can see why it might be desirable on occasion and it is one of the reasons I still hang on to my EZ2.

Yeah, but dsflash.es only deliver to Spain, Portugal and the surrounding islands. Haven't seen r4ds-ds.com before, great price too (they are out of stock though)! Freelyspace is sold out everytime I check and 01Media don't carry the EZ-Flash IV.

Thanks, I really should make sure my bookmarks are still good.
shop.01 appear to have sold out of the miniSD variety but they still have a couple of lite deluxe packages and an EZ4 lite which is basically the same as the regular EZ4 but with a microSD slot and is kind of DS lite sized (it was not aimed at being a dust cover a like)- it is the thing I originally case modded and used for years in my original DS.

For what it is worth http://www.neoconsolas.com/ (based in Spain) did have some EZ4 lite deluxes (going cheap as well- 17 euros a piece and many of us grabbed several) before their site crashed some time back. They do appear to have a facebook account though http://www.facebook.com/pages/Neoconsolascom-Videojuegos/144369652301692 and I imagine they probably have some email forwarders/accounts set up ( consultas@ being the main one I have from them) so you might be able to raise them and see if they have some stock left in a back room or something.

There are a handful of other companies based in Europe that have them but I forgot to grab links.

I made my M3 fit in an extra game i had, so i could play it on my micro/SP, and still stick it in my DS lite too! Was easy, all it was was a bunch of filing and cutting of the bottom part of the GBA cart, prolly took me an hour or so...heres a vid!

I saw pictures of the perfect bundle and they always had like 4-5 dsl shells and a full gba shell
the pro bundle on the other hand only came with 2 shells

Sorry to bump up an old topic, but where can I find the GBA shell pictured above? I understand it would be very hard to get a hold of due to how long the M3 Lite has been out of production.. but trying to get my hands on one of these for my GBA SP has been practically impossible..

Another solution is to take a GBA game that you don't mind to get rid of, dremel a hole on the side for the microsd and you are good to go.
I used the case of a bootleg castlevania the first time.
