I remember that Forza 5 is 1080p but the rest seems to all be 720p so this is what people have bought their brand new $500 box for, a console that plays games in 720p?

Nothing to do with fanboyism but PlayStation 4 has this generation won and all the Xbox popularity is starting to decrease again (it was never that big of a hit in Europe or Japan anyway).

Of course it can. It just depends on what game it is, how much graphical power it takes, how well it's ported/coded etc.

Of course it can. Even the Xbox 360 can manage 1080p. Developers just place more emphasis on things other than the resolution (like framerate, textures, etc.) when using the resources at their disposal.

Playstaion 4 has won what exactly, its only been a couple of months since both of there release yet people still move to different console's.
Even though the ps4 show more 1080p games than the xbox one does not make the console better, and I dont even like the xbox franchise.
The ps4 has got it right with its price cut, its hardware manufacturing (minus some errors), and the experience you can get from it but that does not mean that because my ps4 can out put 1080p my wii u is garbage and has not quality of games to play.

Now it is true, can the xbox one handle 1080p games well the way games are becoming more and more realistic and more focus on details and assets it can become difficult to keep that system from dropping 60fps to 30fps witch is kinda bad. Well all we can do is watch and see what devs say when making/porting a game. Its all abouy utilizing the the consoles full potential.

Eh.
Graphics kids will always complain.

I can't care if it's 480p, 720p or 1080p.
I just want a good game.

So you're okay paying $500 for a "next-gen" that doesn't even provide next-gen graphics? What a waste of money and if you're fine with 480p graphics then you could've just bought a Dreamcast which to date has better games than PS4/XO put together.

*comment*

Xbox One's hardware is inferior and that's something they can't improve it any more since it's on the market now, so XO needs its system seller if they want to go strong against PS4 and no, it's not Titanfall.

To be fair, next gen graphics would be UHD 4K (2160p).

X1 can handle 1080p and 2160p, it just depends on the game itself.

All I can say is that you're a graphics kiddy.

I'm sorry lad but break out of that dream.
Graphics don't make games, aesthetics do.
That along with a good story line makes a good game.

Quality of the newly released games is extremely low.
Developers spend to much time in jacking up the graphics and focussing on online.
The storyline fades away and the game gets bad reviews (good ones from the online community)
Pretty neat if you want to spend 60 quid on a game that you can complete in 3 hours.
Then the only thing left is repetitive online play.

When I think of next gen system I dont only think of next gen graphics, and while I agree about why paying 500$ for a system thats inferior to its competitor it still does not mean it wont out put good quallity just like the wii u, not all games are gonna run 1080p but there still gonna look like something enjoyable
As I said before I dont like the xbox franchise I like the sony/nintendy.
And if I ever look twords a console that wouldn't out put 720p to 1080p it would have to be the Nintendo 64, never really liked the dreamcast but loved the genesis.

Playing Skyward Sword on the Wii was a really shitty experience. The aesthetics were nice, but were prevented from being enjoyed at a blurred, stretched, pixelated resolution. I can fire up Dolphin and enjoy the game far more at a higher internal resolution, both alleviating the low display problem native to the Wii, and actually improving the aesthetics.

On PC, I'm looking at 1080p Dark Souls, and then I give it a go at 4K. Laggy as fuck, but goddamn I would enjoy the game more at this level of detail, and that's a game just being allowed to more room for its native detail--it's not actively taking advantage of the higher resolution. And here's a basic example with the Nintendo DS:

Aesthetics mean fuck-all if the systems hold it back behind a gate of upscaling and low native resolutions. Most console gamers wouldn't know the difference, sadly.

I tried playing Demons's Souls and The Last of Us, and I couldn't enjoy either game to the fullest thanks to the 720p.

Wii isn't meant to be played on a 1080p telly.
Nor are older consoles..

Wii looks and for me played like shit on lower, stretched, pixelated, blurred displays.

It's good to know the PS3, 360, PS4, and Xbone are all considered older consoles though, if they can't reliably achieve 1080p... always outdated by da PC master race :P

Let's not exaggerate - on a modern TV anything below 720p looks like arse and you know it. That being said, anything between 720p and 1080p is entirely acceptable and not a huge issue for me. That being said, the inability to push the same multiplats at the same resolution as the PS4 does raise questions as to how the system will fare later down the line.

The XBox One definitely has the capacity to render at 1080p - that much is obvious. The problem here is that it may not have the graphical push necessary to render complex games at that resolution, however this might be a matter of coders getting used to the new coding environment. Only time will tell, but hardware-wise it's hard not to notice that the PS4 has the edge.

Note to OP: This is the second thread of yours of this nature, WiiCube_2013, the first being this. I hope there's no thinly-veiled agenda behind the scenes - the overall theme of the two threads is more or less the same and focuses around hardware performance, but then again, this one does focus on one particular aspect of it... so hey.

That's why you got an old CRT telly for the N64 and below ;p

Well you can't deny the fact that Skyward Sword is a better game on 720p than on 480p.

Eh I played Ni No Kuni on a 480p telly for more then 60 hours.
The other 27 hours I spend on a "small" 1080p telly and a big 1080p LED telly.
I have to say that the LED telly looks far better but it didn't stop me from finishing it on me own telly.

GTA 5 however on a 480p telly is shit.
Can't read the text at all.
But if I really wanted, I could play it on an 480p telly.

I might be more of an oldschool gamer, hence resolution doesn't matter much, nor do graphics.

Ah, y'see, that's a matter of the genuine experience. It's obvious that old systems tend to look better on old telly's - they were designed to work with them, not scary technology of the future. See: pixel bleeding and whatnot :P

I have a huge CRT telly in my room for retro purposes and a nice LCD one in the living room for contemporary games and I have to say that some of my PS3 games are near-unplayable at 480p, just like you mention. Sometimes those tiny, flickering fonts can really impede gameplay, y'know. Action games tend to be tougher on my old CRT too, but that's mostly because it's hard to aim when you can't see what you're aiming at. There's just no question about it - contemporarily anything below 720p is arse, displaying it on a CRT just makes it worse. :rofl2:

I'm pretty old school myself and resolution doesn't bother me that much, which is why the difference between 720p and 1080p doesn't get my panties in a twist. I'm more worried about the precedence and future implications than the visual effects right now, as those are nigh-negligable.

I got a idk, 25? 30 inch CRT telly for oldschool games.
A LCD for the newer gen consoles (which will be replaced with an 1080p one in the summer prolly)

It'll progress to 4k and 8k and 16k and 32k and whatnot.
Eh, I'll stick with 1080p for as long as those ones are readily available and for as long that telly works.
Why replace if it isn't broken?
720p and 1080p both look perfectly fine to me.
For games 1080p is indeed preffered, but films and series.
Both are fine.

Alas, if someone has a television equal to or smaller than 32", they most likely will never even notice the difference between 720p and 1080p at normal viewing distances. This is due to the nature of the human eyes.

As for the resolution, Microsoft may have a worse sdk than Sony. That could easily explain why a company makes worse pixeled games for one console compared to the other.
