Switching to Gateway

20/01/2014
We are receiving many emails from worried customers switching from unstable Gateway clones (mainly 3DS Link/ R4i Gold 3DS/MT Card) to an original Gateway card. Worries about the possible bricking of their console because of their past use of a clone.

In fact, you do not need to worry as long as you have the proper Launcher.dat on your SD card.

Just please make sure you download the latest release bundle (today Beta 2.0b2) from our web site, and copy the official Launcher.dat to your 3DS SD, to confirm you are using the correct file, enter into the GW menu and you should see Our Gateway banner on the top screen as well as GW beta 2.0b2 on the top of the bottom screen. ENJOY :)

Like I've said elsewhere, they're acting way too fucking full of themselves.

I still support them, but you're right. All that confidence might comeback later to fuck them from behind.. Let's hope not :P

edit: da fuq, I must have had some kind of seizure in my last sentence. It made no sense.

Can I point out how fishy it is that they say MT card will brick you? No cases of it, it isn't out for sale yet (I think? I know some people have a card for testing and review purposes, but I haven't found sites selling them yet).

Naming MT Card as a bricker seems fishy as hell. To me, it seems like Gateway is wanting to cause some FUD for them since MT managed to get multirom support before them.

I sent to them an email like 30 minutes ago and their response was almost the same as this. They are basically ignoring everything that is happening on forums

Even if they are trying to play safe, they are doing it wrong.

I have to say that every time gateway make an official statement they sound shadier and shadier.

I mean I'm posting lots of counterarguments against the conspiracy theorists and these guys go and post inane shit like that.

The emphasis on the official launcher.dat file is a bit too much - every friggin post

I'm back to 50/50 on this one.

first im a legit gateway user.

my opinion is this, gateway should not have released malicious code of this sort. a temporary lockup or similar annoyance for clone users would have sufficed. if they had spent more on protecting the design, by using some sort of encrypted firmware, or firmware that looks for a specific code on gateway cards they wouldn't have had to resort to this. I think they are right to try and protect there product but not at the expense of a few legit users who also seem affected.

my other thought is why is it affecting legit users now, has there code detected sd card corruption and assumed a clone? and if so does it mean if the launcher is detected badly once it then starts the timer of doom?

ive dropped back to using v1.2 as I don't trust the other releases. I would be surprised if we see 2.0 before the end of the month, and even then I want a brick free code or a way of registering my gw card to gain access to the firmware download.

the conspiracy theorist in me thinks something fishy is going on. also how come the MT people have multirom before GW? if there ripping off GW did they get there hands on an early 2.0 release?

Oh dear - a statement from Gateway which perhaps confuses an already confused matter even further..

By saying "(today Beta 2.0b2)" ... people will be asking "is this a new version of 2.0b2 that has been released today, which now omits the kill code?" - because it sounds like Gateway are encouraging people to re-download the same version just to be sure they are ok...

Not a new Launcher. Just checked the MD5.

How about addressing to your already established customers? This statement isnt helping anyone except for drawing more sales. It basically does nothing for the already worried gw users. By saying they wont react to any rumors on forum they are also ignoring their userbase. Keeping them in the dark, making zero announcements.

It's about selling more units bro, not already sold one's.

Their current efforts at selling more carts don't seem very helpful, though.

might be an attempt to milk the last drop out of gateway before it goes down for good.

if MT's statement is correct ("Due to the design defect of the previous 3DS card with hardware architecture, too much inconvenient problems are coming out") no one will buy a gateway in a month regardless how good/bad their reputation is by that time.

did gateway really say that the MT will brick you?

If gateway is making a comment on the MT cart, then they must know if it's a clone or not, otherwise how could they make that comment. They were right about the other carts being clones, why cant they be right about the MT being a clone too?

mt allready arrived at regular customers and it got a custom cpu. see: http://gbatemp.net/threads/mt-card-maybe-the-first-3ds-multi-rom-flash-card.359404/
that said i wish gbatemp would report more about MT and bury gateway and not introduce it to confused new customers first hand.

It doesn't have a "custom CPU" (whatever that is) as far as I know, they just advertised the FPGA as a "feature". I believe Gateway is saying MT Card is a clone because they probably based their launcher in a GW launcher, as the menu works in the same way as GW's menu, but still it is pretty much known that the launcher of MT Card hasn't caused bricks.
