I'm running R4i Gold Deluxe w/ fw3.0, which from what I've read is based off Gateway's 2.0b1. I've been trying to find out if running R4i with fw3.0 is safe or not in terms of the bricking code. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Interestingly for the past 5 days or so I've been playing Zelda and haven't turned off my 3DS XL or quit the game using the Home button because I've had save corruption issues previously and didn't want to start all over again for the 3rd time. So I've simply left Zelda: ALBW running and I close my 3DS to charge it overnight. I am planning to do this until I finish the game so that even if I lose my save file it won't matter.

So in case fw3.0 is unsafe, has anyone reported getting a bricked console while playing a game? Or does it only happen upon running the launcher.dat (after a cold reset), exiting emuNAND, or messing around in the console menus?

Thanks for any help.

It should be safe if it's based off of 2.0b1. There haven't been any reports of it bricking.

Only 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 are having problems.

I couldn't find the official 3.0 firmware, can you upload the one (.rar) you downloaded from the official site please.

3.0 is fine, it doesn't contain the bricking code. The bricking code was introduced in Gateway's 2.0b2 (R4i's 3.1).

Thanks for the info. I'm glad there's an R4i firmware that can play Zelda but won't brick my 3DS. The only issue I guess is save corruption. I've lost about 5 hours in Zelda and 10 hours in Fire Emblem after losing my saves. Oddly enough, I never lost anything in Mario Kart 7 and have played that the most since I got the R4 card.

P.S. I like your sig. Gateway stabbing 3DS users in the back. Very clever indeed.

v3.0 is safe. I said this in another thread i made. If You're currently playing Zelda, batman or Mario Party (a few others too require it) then use v3.0, if not, use v2.0.

v2.0 is more stable; v3.0 crashes too much upon loading the DS profile exploit.

But yea, 3.0 is safe.

I see a world were 3DS clone cards get bricked for stealing the work of others.

That would be fine if it were the cards getting bricked and not the console. Do you want Gateway's blue card to start bricking people's 3DS since they used mainly the work of others.

AHHH thats actually a good point! GW's DS flashcard is a copy of R4´s in the first place.

When Gateway 2.1b inserts new bricking code, the R4i Gold Deluxe users will have to rely on God to help them because r4i knows squat about how to prevent Gateway from bricking r4i cards.

"Good luck".

Not a good point.

That's the old r4 .... that knew what they were doing.
They are long gone.
Today's r4 .... are just a bunch of clueless copycats.

they arent the same group anymore?

No.
The current clueless bunch of idiots just use the r4 brand name.
The clueless idiots at r4 today "can't make anything".
People who buy cards from people who know nothing ... get what they deserve.

whatever. The issue remains the same.

Original R4 team's Cart > Cloned by GW > Clueless r4 team copies GW.

Its just a cycle. A cloner whining over another cloner cloning their stuff. If they really did original work, they wouldnt have need back then of the DS cart, and wouldve come up with a partition or something to be able to load up their NDS file on the same 3ds cart. Just spreading the facts.

No & I don't see how Gateway is legit but I still think they went to far as to implement a kill code that kills the console heck the the people with bricked consoles could sue Gateway or wait until they make an unbricking tool like Pandora
