Shouldn't this show me 7.0.x something if I did it correctly?

I think that what happened was that the 3DS already had the system update for 6.2.0-12U downloaded, so when I tried to do the emuNAND thing, it "updated" to that firmware instead.

You have to update it through the system settings to come to 7.X.

That's what I did, after confirming that I was running on GW3DS 4.5.x. But, it only updated me to 6.2.x and I can't access the eShop.

No. So, I need to boot into Gateway 3DS mode, then access the internet after correctly setting my Wifi settings, THEN try the update after confirming that it's in the proper GW3DS mode?

Yep. I think that you already have a NAND Backup.
1) Turn the 3DS off (if you havn't done it yet)
2) Power it on, go to the system settings and enter GW mode
3) Let the 3DS restart
4) Go into the system settings, make sure that there is a "GW3D" in front of the version number
MAKE SURE NOT TO LEAVE THE SETTINGS FROM NOW ON!!!
5) Setup the internet connection through the system settings
6) Go to the update function, make sure that there's a "GW3D" in front of your FW version and run the update.
7) Enter the GW mode after the 3DS restarted (it will be in normal NAND after the update)

I tried all of those steps and everything was going great until the update was supposed to be completed. Gave me an error message saying "An error has occurred. Unable to update. The system will now be restarted", and I am still on GW3D 6.2.0-12.U.

I am trying this on a 2GB microSD card.

I wonder what I could be missing?

I tried it again, and now it is stuck on 'Updating. Please wait... Do not turn off the system.', and it's about 80% complete, but hasn't budged in several minutes. Grrrr... all I want is to be able to legitimately purchase the new Phoenix Wright game.

Try redumping your NAND and following Technic's directions immediately afterwards? That should get you straight to 7.x, without the 6.2 first.

Okay, now, since the last time I tried, it has at least updated the MiiVerse, but it is still on 6.2.0-12.U. Trying to actually launch MiiVerse causes my 3DS to freeze, requiring a hard reboot. I did the emuNAND thing, and my card went from 1.83GB usable to about 864MB usable, but I can't see the other partition when I plug it into my PC. Should I just completely format my SD card and start all the way over?

Also, ALL of my files show up under Data Management as having zero data. I am trying to delete a few demos so I have more space on my SD card, but can't tell which ones are which so I can delete them.

Argh.

That's normal. The second NAND partition is not really a partition as far as I heared.

Yeah, I figured that. Just wondering if it is possible for me to still reformat this card and start back over from the first step, and see if that fixes the issue.

So, can I use the Gateway tool to reformat it back to a single partition and try again? I can't be the only person who has had this issue. Once I get this last, final step taken care of, I can actually get to playing some of these new games.

This is easily the most frustrating part of using a new mod or hack. I hate the learning phase.

You can write a ROM to it and formate it then with the windows formatter.

Oh, I didn't even consider that. Nice idea. Now, after I dump the system NAND, do I need to keep that file on my microSD card if I already have a backup of it?

Okay, trying again with a newly formatted 2GB microSD card that has 1.83GB of usable space.

1/ Boot into Gateway Mode while holding L.
2/ Dump NAND and turn off 3DS.
3/ Copy NAND to PC for backup purposes but do not remove it from the card.
4/ Restart 3DS and boot into Gateway Mode.
5/ Format NAND.
6/ Boot back into Gateway Mode when complete.
7/ Go to Other Settings after ensuring that it reads as being GW3D FW and choose System Update.
8/ Success and Happy Day?

It should work.
