Hacking Before me sits a PS3 and a laptop hard drive...

...The PS3 is a Slim (cech-2001) and has a modded firmware on if for 3.55 (not sure which one). The laptop hard drive is 1TB and new.

I have done some research but I just want to clarify I am doing the right thing before I pull the trigger.

1) Install rebug Package Toolbox (this will work on any CFW, it doesn't have to be rebug, right?) and make sure the QA flags are enabled.

2) Put the firmware I want to use on a pendrive (in this case, Rogero 4.46 w/ Cobra 7)

3) Install Hard Drive and use pendrive when it asks for firmware.

Am I missing anything?

You're good to go yes.
When you've put in the new HDD and booted it, it'll automatically ask you for the FW update (once it's done formatting the harddisk)

Thank you SO MUCH for the polite reply that wasn't "go to these 50 forums and learn to read noob" and was straight to the point. I've done as much research as I could just wanted to double check. Thanks again!

You're already making sure you wrote down everything you researched and then asking if you're good to go.
Personally, I think that that's not even remotely in the area of being a noob at all.

Just make sure you also connect your controller via the USB cable.
And that you got your Rogero FW named "PS3UPDAT.PUP" in a folder called "UPDATE" in a folder called "PS3" on the root of your USB drive.
Which should be formatted to FAT32.

Just a tip.
Save your original HDD.
Make sure everything is working correctly before you format it and reuse it ;]

Yeah I have all that in a text document here, including make sure there are no discs in the drive so it installs the right update, and a few other things. I had a modded ps3 WAYYYYY back in the day when it was still all fresh, using, of all things, a ti-89 calculator (http://www.brandonw.net/ps3jb89/) but back then it seemed like no games where going to work past 3.55 so I played what I wanted and then sold it, and got a jtag 360 and set that up. Finally have enough cash to get a ps3 again and play everything I missed so I'm pretty excited.

Another thing I really couldn't find anything about cause I didn't really know how to search for it...back in the day, when you backuped up a game to the internal hard drive...you would still have to install it, taking up even more space. Is that still the case? I understand WHY, cause the nature of the program is just making it think its a disc, the PS3 doesn't know its already on the HDD, just wondering if there is a way around it to save space.

Guess I'm the only one that never sells the consoles I own ._.
Be it hacked or unhacked....

Nope.
Just copy/back up the game to the GAMES folder that MultiMAN creates.
Then it's just a matter of selecting the game that MultiMAN displays in it's XMB and wait for it to reload the PS3 XMB.
Then click on the BD disk icon and launch it.

Some games might still make use of the HDD to install external data, but you can largely ignore that (or in the case of GT6, you can disable it)
It also could be that some games refuse to boot.
Those need to have the BD mirror enabled or a legit game in the disk drive (personally, I haven't come across one that needs a legit game in the BD drive)

Not sure if this was mentioned but while updating make sure no game disk is in the disk drive, It can choose the update on the disk instead of whats on pen drive.

Before you install newer firmware, dump EID0 root key. This'll allow you to read PS3 formatted HDD on PC should you ever need to do that.

Also, make sure that the hdd will "physically" fit in the PS3 bay before you wipe the old one. The PS3 will support 2.5" hdds that are 9.5mm in height, but not the 12mm ones. There was a time when the largest 9.5mm hdds were 750GB and anything 1TB and larger were 12mm. Of course, times have changed and 1TB hdds are now available in the 9.5mm size as well.

some games require you to install data to the ps3. if you are running a backup, the ps3 still thinks it is a 'disk', so you will need to install the data if you need to
sure, it might be annoying when you know the game is on the hdd but it makes you install 10gb or whatever anyway, but, at least you get it free right ha. as far as i know there is no way around that.
although there may be a psn release of the game, and this is not disk based, you just need to install the pkg and the game wouldn't have to install any extra data

This is also on my list. On a related note, is there a preferred tool to do this? I'm going to have to transfer 300+ gigs to the PS3 HDD, and I rather not do it over FTP.
