My Wii Fit U trial has expired and it says that I need to register a Fit Meter to continue using it. Something's confusing me, though: Wii Fit U retails with the meter at about £45-£50, or you can buy the meter on its own for £20. This makes it seem like there's some kind of catch, like the game being usable only by one person (the one registered on the meter), or having a limited set of features.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If I buy a Fit Meter can everyone in the household continue playing Wii Fit U?

just buy the meter, you sync it to one of the wii fit u players in the game, and the full game unlocks (keep in mind , that meter becomes dedicated to that player).. you cant share the meter to collect data, but the full wii fit game is opened up to all users on the system once you link the meter to any of the in game players

Thanks for clearing that up. I don't really care about the Fit Meter, but it seems like the cheapest way to open up the game for the whole family. Now, if I'd only bought one in the new year sale when they were £15 at GAME!

You knew about this promotion since November. Why did you wait so long to buy a meter? The meters are great, everyone in your family will want one. But you only need to buy one to unlock the game.

Actually, I didn't even fire the game up for the first time until just the other day, but my 3 year old son must have fired it up some time since it was automatically downloaded. I was going to buy a meter as a Christmas present; I asked for one in a GAME store in a large shopping mall and none of the staff had even heard of it (they just looked at me as if I'd asked them to divide 129817362 by 8). Instead I bought some other stuff and didn't get time to go out and buy the meter in the end.

They have been hard to find in stores. Amazon.com has them. Maybe Amazon.co.uk has them too?

How are the Fit Meters going ?
Still using them ?

What does it do ? Measure the number of steps you took that day ? and syncs it to the Wii U ?

A couple of other things too; measures changes in elevation so you could take it climbing if you wanted to, and estimates calories burned. I don't use it, my partner does, and it seemed like a decent way of owning the game. Not sure if I'd agree they're worth it on top of what you'd pay for Wii Fit U now that the promotion has ended, though.

I use it on a daily basis. While it certainly motivates to go jogging & stuff, I have to say it's pretty limited. I mean...obviously, I can't use it to measure my karate classes. But while there is a way to add extra activities in wii fit u, you can only add it on the day itself.
And as the image shows, it gives the amount of steps taken in a day (and how many calories it burns). The left-right buttons cycle through "the amount you must burn in order to lose weight", climbed height (I assume per day), time, temperature (note that this is completely off if you keep it in your pocket). It also gives some basic graps, but I honestly cannot think of anyone who would think it is usefull (you can barely read it on such a screen).

...and why it has all those things but NOT a timer or a chronometer is just a retarded decision.

All in all...I can't really regret buying it because it gave me access to the game itself, but by itself...no. It's not worth the asking price.

I still use it daily. Syncing is something I do once a week... While it is a simple action just to hold it to the controller my changing closet is on the first level while my Wii U is on the base floor. It is very accurate and it can tel me pretty much the same info as Professional equipment. The screen is good to read, but a bit small to read the details. That's where the game comes in to play. Stopwatch, Actual time etc would be nice...

Worst mistake I think they made is that you only get rewarded the day you sync... While other days will show up in the graphs they will not give you Coins.

Eh? I don't get this...I just synced since about 3-4 days. When I do the walking & climbing tests, it nicely adds all the previous days. And while there is an animation of giving you coins, it's not like that does anything (climbing mount Everest or running around Hawaii is supposed to be the challenge itself...not something you get rewards for doing).

Well... seems that you are only rewarded coins once a day. Also you will only receive coins for the day that you upload the stats...

But the coins are meaningless. You get full credit for the steps and height in the fit meter challenges. You get the unlocked outfits if you care about that. What good are the coins?
