Hardware Extended Batteries for the 3DS XL?

Well, considering as we all know how laughably bad the stock battery is on the standard 3DS, does anyone know of any extended batteries for the XL model?

Part of me is considering going on the hunt for a vulnerable XL to use for the Gateway card, but I also remember how bad the stock battery life is compared to the NyKo extended battery. And while I do thankfully see even larger batteries available to replace the stock one on Amazon, they only apply for the XL, and not the standard model.

The 3DS XL actually has a better battery than the original so it lasts longer without the need to buy anything like the nyko pack. You can upgrade the battery but... it's kind of pointless if you ask me.

How many hours though?

I can easily get about 12 hours with the Nyko. And I just recently happened upon an even larger capacity unit on Amazon for not a lot of money. I rather want the XL because of the larger screens, and the 3D games do look better. It also did a nice job of scaling the DStwo homebrew.

Just last month I played about 8-9 hours of SMT IV from a full charge to the battery going red. Granted, 3D was off, power-saving mode was on, the brightness was at the lowest setting, sound was off half the time and below half the other, and wifi was off for all but an hour or two, but for a modern handheld on stock battery it was pretty impressive. Not as impressive as a standard 3DS and an extended battery, perhaps, but for me it's long enough that I don't need to look for one.

The only extended XL battery I've seen is the Mugen one, which is both incredibly bulky and incredibly expensive; you're probably better off buying a USB charging cable and a portable USB battery pack.

Decent product, but very very slow delivery. It's your only option, so it's pretty much take it or leave it. All the other battery extenders only work with regular 3DS.

I personally own a Mugen battery, and it is not bulky. The increase in weight is not noticeable, and the battery actually made holding a 3DS XL more comfortable. The downside is that you can't use Circle Pad or exterior covers with it.

Further, charging via USB is not a viable option for 3DS XL. The charging speed is incredibly slow, and you will encounter problems if you attempt to play the 3DS while charging via USB. You will need to have the 3DS turned off while charging via USB or the power drain can be greater than the power charged.

I charge my 3ds xl via usb y cable that i made my self... so far no prob... probably better with usb 3.0 as it delivers 2000ah AFAIK...

Augh... Mugen overcharges like crazy for their batteries. They were the only one to make anything remotely resembling an extended battery for my prior OneSV, and they wanted $40 for a battery that only was 8% larger.

Granted, this one's clearly got a lot more under the hood...

And truth be told, I'd rather a fatter device and having the battery life to last than have to carry yet another thing that could be lost/stolen/etc.

850mAh I believe. So it's not that much faster, but it makes a huge difference when you are using the device, since if the device is draining 400mAh while on, that means it will only charge with 100mAh when charging through USB 2.0, but will charge with 450mAh using USB 3.0, so over 4x the charge rate.

I won't disagree with you there but at least they are decent quality products, not like those cheapo chinese batteries that don't get anywhere near living up to their mAh rating and have been known to blow up in rare cases.

Yeah, I wish it's cheaper too. However, at the end of the day I can't really regret it, since it's the only option available and it works pretty well.

I personally just bought a 3DS usb charge cable and used those portable cellphone batteries to recharge/extend. Works just as well but it's more flexible and you can get a lot better capacity battery for cheaper.

Yet basic science will dictate that more charge cycles will wear it out faster.

I only recently had to replace my first Nyko for another, which I installed on my launch original 3DS. In its degraded state, the old one was already about as bad as the original one when it was fresh. I could only hate to imagine how awful the factory battery would have been in the same amount of time.

On my 3DS XL with stock battery, I easily get 6 hours of battery life with 3D on, power-saving off, and brightness level 2. Pretty good if you ask me.

Excuse my eye roll... I'm not going to even bother to start tearing apart your antiquated "knowledge". Not worth my time. Do what you will. But I will say one more thing, SHOCK! you don't have to recharge, but use the extra battery on a fully charged 3DS first for extended playtime. That way you're only discharging that battery more often, because newsflash, you can easily get higher capacity ones than the extended battery you're looking at, and can you put the rest together yourself?

I have the mugen battery for my regular 3DS, and it was definitely well worth the money.

If I ever do get an XL, I will be getting a mugen for it as well.
