Yesterday, the Bravely Default demo was released on the North American 3DS eShop. The problem is, Nintendo imposed a limit of 30 uses on the demo. This is a problem because this isn't your typical demo--it is entirely content that is not in the full game; it's a side story.

Is there any known way to get around these stupid # of uses limits? I would imagine it would be as simple as changing a number in the header of whatever file controls # of uses for the demo. My 3DS isn't hacked, but I should think something like this would be doable without hacking the console.

Here's what I have to work with:
*Hacked Wii (original white model with gamecube ports et al.)
*Black WiiU model (not hacked)
*DS Lite (not hacked)
*DSi XL (Mario 25th anniversary model, not hacked)
*3DS XL (standard red model, not hacked)

and obviously a computer.

Currently there aren't any hacks for the 3DS that will allow that. You're just stuck with it. Best bet is to not quit the demo and put your 3DS to sleep when you aren't playing it. Plan to devote some time to it.

Is there at least a way I can identify the game files on the 3DS's memory card? I downloaded 3DSExplorer but I'm still not exactly sure what to look for. I poked around a little with it, but couldn't read any files with it.

I was thinking at minimum, backing up the SD card data to my computer and then perpetually copying the data back to the SD card would be a quick fix solution, but I need to differentiate between the files of the game itself and the save data, (Yes, in this demo you can save your game), to really get anywhere with this.

The only way you could go about it is with a 3DS, on firmware allowing you to run the Gateway exploit (firmware between, and including, 4.1 - 4.5). You'd have to download the demos to your emuNAND partition and make an image of the SD card before you start playing. Play through all of the allowed uses, restore the image, and you're good for another number of tries. Messing with files on the SD card alone won't do the trick.

Making a backup copy of the game from the SD card would essentially be the same as making an image of it. So I've done that, but there is an additional problem in that you can save your game. So I have to isolate the save from the game itself.

just let the game run and put the system in sleep mode(you need to do it if you want to restore the town)
maybe 35h to do the demo and restore the town

Nintendo sets the number of runs demos can have

limited demo
i think it to stop exploits
it can take over 100 tries to find one
and with limited demo you only have a small number to find one that works

The amount of uses left is saved on the NAND, so backing up and restoring the SD card won't work IIRC. Restoring emuNAND will probably work, but it requires you to have emuNAND set up and it may kill your save file.

where do 3ds eshop titles store their savegames. isnt it in the Nintendo 3ds folder? what if i backed up the entire folder and put it back on the sd card after restoring emunand?

I have no idea. If you have a Gateway compatible 3DS, why don't you try it and post the results? I'm curious myself.

i understand limitations of regular demos...I mean if you like to play them so much stop being cheap and buy them (of course the people of this forum don't understand this what with their self entitled nature). This however is a part that some people may want to play again in the future, SE should maybe update it so that if you have the full game there are no limitations.

Indeed, I already have the game preordered. I'm hoping once I get it, the demo will be permanently unlocked for me. The original Japanese release of the demo was different, they released it in bits as episodes prior to the release of the full game. So why this stupid nonsense with the NA release...

well just putting it out there but i assume if you where really SOOOOO desperate to play it over and over you could wire your 3DS up to do a nand dump of the console nand and restore whenever you like....this doesn't rely on having a gateway card or a 4.5 firmware, you can do it on any console BUT its a bit over kill to play a demo a few times :P

I can confirm that backing up emunand will reset the limit to 30. All you need to do is download the demo and make a backup of your emunand "I use the emunand tool from n1ghty". Play the game as much as you want and when you want to reset the limit just restore the backup you made before. Using this method I was able to preserve my save file but reset the demo limit.

Does anyone else find the name "Bravely Default" super annoying to the point where you aren't the least bit interested in even trying the game? I can't stand most of the wannabe hip video game titles that come out these days. I can list off a plethora of retarded video game titles, most of which have a huge fan base, but I would never give them a chance simply because I'd feel like a dumbed down end user drone if I did.

30 plays is pretty generous, I thought the 12 plays for Dream team was generous. Of course this compared the the measly two that came with a couple of lame X-Bone demos I downloaded.

Basically, what I'm saying is that the industry is in a heap right now. Bunch of uninspired BS games and titles, no innovation, and hardly any fun. I'm sure Bravely Default is a fine game, it is a Nintendo title. But the name is downright insulting. I ain't no nerd son.

Inifite plays is normal, anything below is dump. There is nothing generous about it at all. Some guy in Nintendo was really bored, to come up with that idea. Maybe he was intend to show any usefulnes, so they wont fire him.

I don't really know TBH. Only 3ds demo I've downloaded is Cream Dream. Just comparing it to XB1 demos and if they're all moving toward limited plays then that's fine, but make it more than two. Demos are lame anyway, don't see why it really matters to sceners.
