Okay good, I seriously thought my 3DS was screwing with me since I couldn't update Animal Crossing or Pokemon.

No pokemon for Timmy on Christmas day if daddy DARED (???) to rely on digital downloads.

May not have affected everybody but still.

Guess kids who received an ipod touch are having a better time.
*cough Pokemon bundles having games in the console pre-installed *cough

only fools and tools go on the eShop to "acquire services" and not a product.
Again, because everyone buys digitaly.

Yes, because everyone buys bundles.
Eliminates the use of Eshop and u save money. So honestly to use the eshop on xmas to buy a gift, I'm like so confused since it was supposed to be done, like before?

My point is, people had a chance to get it digital and save money before Xmas.
So saying that all gamers can't try the games out today because of the eshop problems, well, that's kinda false.

Because it's not 2006 anymore.
People have been accustomed for years to gift ipads and ipods touch, unwrap them and start downloading stuff on them.
It's a given. The eShop is supposed to work. No service has a perfect uptime, but being down all day on Christmas is particularly annoying...or naive on nintendo's side...

I remember a thread asking people whether they preferred physical or digital copies. I believe this one might tip the favor towards physicality. Might I suggest if it is a digital item to either order it before hand or get a gift card for it? Do you order something from Amazon on the day you want it? Not unless you're willing to pay a fortune for shipping. I get my gifts a few days in advance of the special date, but that's just me.

Edit: I'll throw this out there; maybe the timeout was because of something similar to the GTA Online server. Remember when all those people locked out the server because so many people tried to log on simultaneously? Maybe this happened with Nintendo. Some people logged on; others weren't as fortunate due to the existing traffic.

That's funny though, because u seem to think that it was all intended on ninty's part.

The only way to avoid the issue would have been to open the gift beforehand, set it up, create the eshop account or NNID, buy and download the game, and put it back in the box. No gift card would have saved people from the "can't download the actual game"-issue.

Oh, so you buy a physical package which gives you the download code for the game; am I understanding this right? If that's the case, then why didn't they just package the card in the physical case? That way, they would've had the game: and all they'd needed to do was register the game with their NNID.
