Hardware wii usb drive - get rid of message ' You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it'

Hello,

i been using wbfs manager with great hapiness, its amazing really. I just have one concern .. when i plug-in the usb drive in computer i get following message . You need to format the disk in drive J: before you can use it . My usb drive works otherwise fine.. to remove , add games ect. But... is there a way to disable that windows message appearing?

i LOOKED into it . and this it what i found .

Try to go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management. In the Disk Management part, remove the drive letter for the raw partition.....It should prevent Win7 from asking you to format the partition, while letting you mount the partition in TrueCrypt.

You are probably using the WBFS partition format, which is not recognized by Windows.

If removing the drive letter (don't format it!) didn't help, you could (should) convert your WBFS partition to FAT32 partition.
WBFS format is old and deprecated, it tends to corrupt games with time. Using FAT32 is easier, and works on all USBLoaders.


You can convert your partition without formating and without loosing your games (as long as you don't have already corrupted games), by using wbfs2fat program. It's easy and fast.

Another method (haven't tested it myself) would be to hold B as the system boots up and go directly to vWii mode, bypassing the Wii U prompt message altogether. Knowing my luck, I'd probably end up formatting the HDD, so if you can, make a backup on your PC....unless they're in WBFS format. If so, then yeah....never mind. That particular file system is generally unstable, fragile and deprecated. If you can, try to format it to FAT 32.

Switching to FAT32 would solve that problem. There is a program out there (I think it's called wbfs2fat) that will convert it so you don't have to re-rip/copy your games. I used it without any problems.

Though there is also a program that prevents the popup from showing on the Wii U, was it called UStealth or something like that...? Either that or going directly into vWii mode before you get to the Wii U menu is another route.

I'm pretty sure this guy is complaining about the message WINDOWS is giving him. He hasn't even mentioned a Wii U anywhere in his post.

Ehm.. question.

I have my games on USB-drive in wbfs format -
I wish to move them to my USB-drive using fat32... but if i just move them.. arent they in wbfs format still?

Im using Wii Backup Manager

What is a easy way to move my games to the fat32 usb-drive?

You want to keep your WBFS partition and copy the games to another partition?
Or would you prefer converting your WBFS partition to FAT32 directly? (no copy needed, very fast to convert)

If you want to copy, use WiiBackupManager, open WBFS partition in drive1 tab, and FAT32 partition in drive2 tab. select the games to copy and choose Transfer to Drive2.
The games on a FAT32 or NTFS partition format have the extension ".wbfs" and ".wbf1" instead of ".iso".
.wbfs files are better than ISO, they take a lot less space on your HDD.


If you want to convert the WBFS to FAT32, you can use "wbfs2fat" program.

Just know that your games on your WBFS partition could be corrupted (the WBFS partition is not good, and games sometime gets corrupted). That's why FAT32 is better.
Some of your games you transfer to FAT32 might not work. Dump the game disc again, or use the original ISO in WiibackupManager to install it to FAT32 partition.

I heard that wbfsfat programme is really clunky.. and can end up with 0 games , if you mess up.. nuh huh. i just transfer games from wbfs partition to fat32 partition ,

well i tried every game on wbfs partition usb-drive on my wii.. all works without probs. so, i think transfer is okay and not need to dump games again.. will take ages

You can use the same partition for all game types.

The default folder for these games are different, but you can of course use a different one if you prefer (you can change the default path in USBLoader's settings, but it's better to stick to default folders for compatibility between all programs/applications).

Default Wii games:
usb1:\wbfs\

Default GameCube games:
usb1:\games\ or SD:\games\

Default Wiiware:
usb1:\nand\ or SD:\nand\
(well, this one is the default NAND folder, not really the channel folder)

Default wad folders:
usb1:\wad\ or SD:\wad\
(this place is where you put your channels in wad format, to install to NAND or EmuNAND)
