So I'm running Wii backups just fine, but I want to be able to run GC backups and I keep getting the common errors like appsize is zero etc. I have reinstalled twice now and I'm wondering what I'm missing. I double checked the MD5s of my rips and they're fine.

here's my syscheck if it helps

2.) I've recently downloaded the program WIT to my computer...with unsatisfactory results. The program, after installation, flashes for a brief second before closing itself, despite how many times it is re-installed, closed, opened, etc. Does anybody know what's wrong in this instance?
This is a command line program, it has no GUI or windows. if you launch it, it will close because it didn't get any command to perform.

Why do you want WIT?
If you are on windows, you can use WiiBackupManager instead, unless you have a specific use in mind which require WIT.

1.) I use a USB drive to transport files from my computer to the Wii. However I absentmindedly deleted some apparently important files from that USB, which has eliminated the drive's compatibility with the Wii (I'm just guessing here). Now when I plug this USB into my Wii the files aren't detected. Argh. Would somebody be able to link me to a place where I can redownload these important files? They were called "load" or "DS.store" or something.
I don't understand what you are calling a "file". What is not detected? the homebrew/applications? where? in the homebrew channel ? in a loader?

If it's in the homebrew channel, did you try to press (2) button on wiimote and select SD<->USB sources?

Are you sure you deleted a file on your USB and not on your Wii ?
If you "removed" a file, you need to "put it back". What I mean is "re-install" the loader, or the program which is not working.

On USB, the only important file is ... the loader itself.
you need to download the homebrew you want to use (here, an USBLoader) and extract it on your SD card (or USB if you don't want SD card).
For example, with USBLoaderGX: SD:/apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol
For Wiiflow : SD:/apps/wiiflow/boot.dol
etc.

It means DIOS MIOS didn't find the game. This error is common when the user didn't setup his device correctly.

There are few requisites you need to follow :

HDD must NOT be bigger than 2TB
HDD must NOT use sector size of 4096 bytes (only 512 byte per sector is working). It's a physical size decided when the HDD was produced, you can't change it. all new HDD use 4096 bytes/sector.
If you make multiple partitions, you need to put games on the FIRST physical partition of the HDD. (letters in windows doesn't determine the order)
The partition must be PRIMARY
The partition must be formated in FAT32 with 32k/cluster (or less, but 32 has better results).

Only then, it will work.
The easiest way to see if your HDD is correctly setup and compatible is to launch a gamecube game using USBLoaderGX r1218, it has a hardware check.

Hah, good question. I have since dejected WIT. It is far superior to my knowledge of technology, unfortunately.

What isn't showing currently are the files that I have on both my SD card and USB drive (both of these are connected to the WII). All of the initial downloads are on both the USB and SD as they need to be, but the WII just isn't detecting them...huh.

The previous files I was typing about were just flukes. Pardon my ignorance, lol. Thank you for your help.

PS: I love your avatar and username; FF VI was and still is the best!

hello all. I have a softmodded wii version 4.3E pal. I want to update the wii shop channel to version 21 so that I can download netflix from the EU shop. Do I simply need the v21 shop wad & MMM to install this update or do I need something else? I don't know if wads are universal or different with every region & don't want to risk bricking my wii over it. Any help would be great

you also need the most current IOS56.... you can get both through Modmii. if you use the wizard, it automatically includes IOS56 if you tell it you want to update shop channel. ...otherwise, you can get Shopv21 and IOS56 from Download page 1.

Modmii link in my sig.

TY, will installing IOS56 mess up or coincide with anything installed since I have used the hackmii/bathaxx exploit to s0ftmod my wii? I had been trying to understand what different IOS' are but couldn't find a direct answer

there's no brick risk if that's what you're asking. the only thing it could possibly mess up is that particular IOS for DarkCORP.... so unless you launch backup games on disc via Disc Channel, you'll be fine.

I haven't a clue if this is the right place to ask this. (HOLY CRAP IVE BEEN HERE FOR A WHILE AND STILL HAVENT FIGURED IT OUT)

Basically, here's the deal (Please point me in the right thread if this isn't the right place, so I don't end up cross-posting for whatever reason).

My SO got me a Wii for the holidays (yes, it's late, I know). We have disassembled it and found out it's a D3-2 v2 drive, so we found a suppler selling downgrade boards for cheap. We refuse to touch any solderless modchip, and the solder-free chips seem like they cripple the Wii.

We're not interested in going with an SD/USB HDD-only solution, but a softmod of some sort will likely be done in combination with the modchip in the future. Once we get the board in, we plan to order an appropriate chip for it.

No solderless, as those tend to lack features sometimes. Soldering one in is no problem.

Here's our conundrum: she owns a GC. Non-modded (but I can grab a xeno-gc chip for it for cheap). She wants to have her backups available for play on the Wii, which isn't an issue, as we grabbed the appropriate model that supports them.

We want to have as many features as possible, but the catch is the streaming audio crap. There seems to be a lot of confusion from what I've read on the subject, and here's what I know thus far:

1. There seems to be a fix that does, in fact, work on the Wii, but it is only through a D2B board with a V1 WiiKey. Firmware version is unknown.
source: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=710

2. YAOSM seems to have a 100% working fix, but finding the chip, while it's not difficult, is not the issue. I don't have an IC programmer to make that happen, as it requires a DIP to be flashed with custom firmware.
source: link above

3. I've seen reports that the D2CKey also seems to work with the fix. Board version is unknown. Unconfirmed.

4. I read a rumor somewhere on these forums talking about how the Wasabi Zero may have it, but that was disproven in the same thread.

Many of the modchips available seem to advertise the streaming fix, but almost none of them actually work, from what it seems.

I know that there are nearly no softmods that support the streaming fix, but Devolution seems to be the only promising update thus far (which still requires us to own the legit disc, which would defeat the purpose of even running a backup just to get the stream fix half the time, unless you've got kids or some crap).

She really loves her GC, but it won't work with our smart TV, and as such, we keep a CRT box in the corner hooked up to older consoles (PS2, SNES, Genesis, and the GC), so we want to strike a reasonable compromise with this.

It's just that streaming fix that's a dealbreaker for us right now, and the shops in my area charge a buttload for GC games for some reason, and if we have the game, why bother using devolution in the first place? (Unless it's scratched up or it was previously used as a coaster or something.)

What would be the best recommendation for a chip, board version, or whathaveyou?

Anyone think they might be able to lend a hand?

A response does not have to be immediate. I'm in no rush. Also, holidays, and it's 12:52AM right now. Take your time responding.

Thanks in advance if I forget.

Hey, guys! Please, I need a quick answer and I don’t have time to do any research right now (Xmass and things you know, wanna make a present for my friends). I can buy Wii console “Just Dance 4 Special Edition” with Wii Party and Wii Sports with Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck.
1s.jpg

I know that it’s possbile to softmod it and it does not support GameCube. So, which softmod should I use?
Which controllers do I need to play these games with my friends (gonna be 4 persons)?
Thank you so much for your answer. If you answer quick it will be a true Christmas miracle. Sorry for this noob question.

I have a softmodded vertical (backwards compatible wii) and I'd really like to know the future of gamecube games on wii. I know that Devolution can play almost anything without any problems (It has the greenest compatibility lis I have ever seen). However it has a antipiracy system, which I cannot comment on, since it is the choice of the coder, however I have to say it renders the whole thing useless for someone who lives in a country that gamecube (and actually n64) was never officially released.

The question is can we achieve this kind of compatibiliity for the wii minus the antipiracy crap in a couple of yeras?

I doubt it as the other GC USB loading software, Dios Mios, the author seems to have stopped development on it. However in its current state, I have very few issues with DM. It plays most of what I own with no issues, and for the games that have issues it just requires a different version of DM to work. And that DM allows compression so I can use HDD space effectively.
But anyway, DM works great and doesn't have AP so, try it out if you like. Devo will most likely never abandon AP so, for you it's DM or buy a lot of used games internationally for Devo.

Well, I don't know I have quite a lot of problems with DM actually, it may bbe because of the different versions as you have mentioned. For instance wity my build Bloody Roar Extreme, Geist and Phantasy Star III do not work while they are green on the compatibility list. On the other hand some other incompatible games such as Baten Kaitos and F-Zero GX work perfect.

Audio Streaming remains the biggest problem, and dios mios stil does not support it. I still can't understand why no one is interested in working on Devo or DM. Gamecube library is gold if you ask me and it would be nice to introduce Wii community to such good titles by making them easily available

By the way, do you have a solution for audio streaming titles? I mean you said that there are very few problems and they can be fixed with a different version of the dios mios? Can you play Star Fox without any problems? I really would like to know (I'm not being sarcastic, I'd like to get exclusives gamecube titles to work, I'm planning to play some for this christmas).

As far as the compatibility list, it's kinda hit & miss with accuracy. When it says a game works, I try with 2.10 but if it doesn't work, I'll try older versions until (and if) I find one that works - 2.10 does work for most everything I play however. It's not the best method I suppose but, if you want to do things that Devo doesn't let you (compress & no AP checks), you make things work for you. And I do use Devo for about 6~7 games, audio streaming ones and 1 (2?) that felt like they just didn't work right in DM.

A solution for audio streaming? The only solution for AS is to use Devo with a game disc you own or borrow physically to register it on the system & HDD. Otherwise, there is a modchip (Wiikey??) that supposedly supports it but I don't know if it's available or not anymore. But AS on DM is not possible now, and unfortunately maybe never.

For me, audio streaming is a small issue as I don't think there are all that many great games that use it (I own most of the games I want to play that use AS except a few). I do wholeheartedly agree with you about the GC library - great system. Star Fox Adventures... Sorry - not on DM, only Devo (with AS that is).
I really can sympathize with the whole "never sold in my country" issue but if your aim is to play as many GC games as possible, then just buy or borrow the few AS ones you really wanna play and download the rest.

Have a question about devolution:

I tried running Devolution, the blue verification lights don't come on. At first I got a disc Id 00000000 error but I put the .iso in the games directory and it now gets beyond the error. When I select the game, it just goes black and no blue lights come up to verify the disc. This is the original rip and original disc, not sure why it doesn't work.

So how exactly do you play games of an usb?
I tried playing Wii Party from Wiiflow, it shows up and everything, but when I click on play the screen turns black.
It also doesn't work from the GX loader and from Neogamma. Is it just a bad game then?

Wait, it's an U game, is that gonna work on an E system?

Quick Question! What do I need to do to be able to transfer saves to a new HBC enable Wii. Without having to play the game for the first time. Also can you transfer Wii game saves with that Online Coded?
