Hacking I'm finding great guides for the Gateway 3ds, but can anyone help me get this running?

I have an R4I gold (this: http://www.r4ids.cn/r4ids-e.htm) and I tried searching everywhere but there seems to be a lot of misinformation and because there are so many clones it's hard to get a fix on whats what. Gateway has lots of support but I can't seem to quite get this running.

What I feel I know:

There's 2 things a cart can do:

1. Run ds games/homebrew (multiple on one card)
2. Run 3ds games (1 per card)

The 3ds needs to be in 4.2-4.5 for the 2nd thing but even the latest firmware can achieve the first thing.

When recieving a flash card there are two cartridges:

1. a grey blank (edit: okay my grey bank is my gold label "starter cart" without a label.)
2. a standard cartridge with a label

This is where I get fuzzy.
The grey is for updating the system mayhaps? The standard is for running the wood firmware and... something else?

Where I'm totally lost:
- What order am I supposed to do things in?
- EMUNAND: What is it and how do I impliment it?

Thanks all for you help.

As the R4i 3ds gold is a gateway clone, you can follow the instructions for the gateway, just substitute the software and replace any mention of the blue gw card with black R4 and the red gw card with grey/starter R4.

The black R4 is the DS mode card, which is also used to write the exploit data.

edit: meh, mixed the cards up...., fixed now

2 Specific questions:

1. Does nothing go on the SDcard except for launcher .dat?

2. I can only have 1 3ds game on the cartridge, but can I have as many DS games as I can fit on there in addition to the single 3ds game?

1. Yes. That's all that's needed. When you play games, your saves will also be backed up on the SD card. The EmuNAND 'partition' and/or backup will also be on there.
But for just running Gateway, you only need the Launcher.dat on there

2. You can only have 1 3DS game on the cartridge and *nothing else* will 'fit' on there. It's impossible to get anything else on there since you're flashing the SD card with the 3DS ROM as an image.
You're better off getting a second MicroSD card for your second cartridge (Gateway comes with two cartridges)... One MicroSD card for your 1 3DS game, and one MicroSD card for the multitude of DS games as well as the hack installer.

Gateway says they are releasing support for multirom soon (near Xmas) so you MAY want to hold off on that... but they aren't too expensive so it's up to you I guess.

Well that was easy. Got the new zelda and all up and running. I suppose my final questions are:

- am I being too paranoid in not accepting any user agreements?

- What am I missing out on?

- What is streetpass and what is the online functions of the 3ds?

- Is the only way besides card swapping to get other 3ds games to completely format the card everytime I want a different game?

Gateway said that.

I was under the impression R4I was doing original work but nope. This is a reskinned gateway. When I launch into the profile mode it even says gateway.

There's no guarantee that this is a feature that will carry over to the clone cart.

Ahh true. Sorry, forgot you weren't using a Gateway. Yeah there is no guarantee that Gateway won't implement a way to prevent them from stealing their code so easily.
