Is this worth it when it comes to performance? I'm hearing reports about slowdowns/lags and the like so are they tolerable? I just want to play GBA games on a real GBA and not on emulators like what I used to do. Thank you for any inputs.
no idea if they run or how well they run, but i would never get the supercard for my gba based on the reports on this site.
the one that every one recomends, if you can get one is the ez flash 4 http://www.realhotstuff.hk/EZ-Flash-IV-_p_76.html
i have both a supercard and a ezflash iv and i havent used my supercard for many years because its slow and id rather just play on an emulator then use it.
Yeah, save the money til you can find yourself an EZ Flash IV. You won't be disappointed.
I got myself a SC Mini SD and an EZ Flash. If you've got a proper Mini SD card (I've got myself a 2gb Sandisk), SC can run pretty well. I can play Mother 3 pretty flawlessly, but other games run kinda darn badly on it. EZ Flash did not disappoint me in any possible way, it does just what it should. If you're still thinking of the SC I could try any game you want me to on it, but I also recommend the EZ Flash. Just don't go and buy an overpriced one, I got mine for roughly 20$, but there are people that will go @100$ for that thing.
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever get the SuperCard. Not if you plan on playing GBA games.
That is because the SuperCard runs its game directly off the memory card while the EZ-Flash IV copies them to an on-board PSRAM chip first.
GBA games require a faster data transmission rate than the SD card can give or something, while EZ-Flash IV runs them natively (the PSRAM chip acts the same way as a regular ROM chip in a retail cartridge.)
A Link to the Past: Runs perfectly, didn't see any problem in the first 15 minutes of the game, but I couldn't test Four Swords since I don't have two GBAs
Minish Cap: Same case, didn't really see any problem..
Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission (they run the same): No problem either, I own the official games too and I can't see any difference
Super Mario Advance games: They all have some random graphical glitches (flashing background, odd textures on certain frames), and a ton of lag if there are more than 3 enemies at once.
Final Fantasy games (the same, again): Randomly occurring slowdowns everywhere, and odd graphical glitches like sprites fading in and out, getting chopped and stuff. Lag spikes and random hangs are in there too. Although they're really minor, overall it doesn't run too great.
Rhythm Tengoku (tested this one from my own curiousness, but might as well say it here): Flawless, although I didn't expect it to.
Conclusion: SC is not too bad, but it highly depends on your Mini SD card. I could do with the SC but since I have an EZ Flash IV, I am much much happier. Don't buy the SC only if you're really desperate and have no chance of getting an EZ Flash, if you can get the EZ Flash then get it ASAP (as long as the price is fair enough). Just like everyone else says, you will not regret it.
EDIT: Another issue at the SC is that I can't get it to save my games, even though the save files are there and the battery is okay. I won't bother trying to fix it though, but I'm sure it's a minor problem and it can be fixed. Basically, another reason to why the EZ Flash is a better choice.
