Hacking Cannot copy contents from default 4GB 3DS XL SD CARD

Hi,
Need your help. I'm not sure if this is the correct platform.

as anyone already knows, one of the recommended things to do before formatting/creating emuNAND is to back up all the data/content inside the SD card to PC.

Mine is 4GB that also included Super Mario 3D Land preinstalled. The problem is i can copy the .sav data from gateway and also DCIM folder but when it came to copying 'Nintendo 3DS' folder, it became very slow and sometime error or 'not responding' that i cannot do the copying at all. Btw, this is my 1st time i try to backup the data.

I am not sure whether it is the sd card reader faulty (and need replacement) or it is just the data/content inside 'Nintendo 3DS' that is restricted for copy function as I believe the preinstalled game data are stored inside. Never been to eshop as my firmware is at 4.4.

I can still use the same card reader to write rom using the win32 imager. I also can still use the sd card in my 3ds xl for gateway mode saving and playing the preinstalled game. ATM, i do not have any other card reader available for troubleshooting.

I have read it somewhere that the all the data inside the sd card can be backup easily by just copy/paste example for upgrading to a higher capacity sd card.

That's weird... I had no issues copying the data from my old 3DS. Perhaps try another USB port or make sure your card isn't loose when you insert it into the reader. Also, try plugging it directly into your computer and not in a USB hub.

already try other usb port still the same for copying Nintendo 3DS folder. i have read somewhere that all the data including game can be copied as usual as long the data/game in a new sd card is use on the same 3ds system. I will try on a direct connection and also other/new card reader but need to find one 1st. Thanks. I will report again if there is any progress.

btw, other eshop downloaded game can be also copied as usual to a new sd card or as backup in pc? in case i managed to get to the Gateway Mode with updated emuNAND.

All you're doing is making an exact copy of it, you should be able to copy anything between different SD cards and PC's.

I didn't have any problems copying my Nintendo 3DS folder but what you should try is copying it in pieces instead of the whole thing at once. Open the Nintendo 3DS folder and highlight a few folders (not all of them) and copy them over. When that's done, do the same with other folders. If it fails, pick fewer folders until it works.

ic, will try that method also. i think it might be that there are some limitation regarding copy-paste function involving folder with many sub-sub folder in windows or my pc itself. If my memory served me right, i think i have done some copy-paste in the past involving folder with many sub-sub folder inside without any problem. I hope it is not because my usb port limitation or my card reader telling it's time for replacement.

is it really useful alternative compared to native windows copy function? i googled it and it got a good review. never knew about that. will try also the teracopy. Thanks all!

finally after restarting the windows, with new card reader, the copy-paste function went on smoothly without any problem. tried also using the teracopy, all went smoothly. certainly will use teracopy for any big size files/folders and with any critical data transfer in future.

Now need to get back to Hyrule and deciding whether to emuNAND or not. Thanks

Well it gets the job done much mor eefficiently, and it's quite popular... You'de have to be pretty dense and ignorant NOT to have at least heard of it.

It is a file sector corruption. You can do a check disk scan on it. Repairing the damaged sectors might cause the loss of any files in that sector.

It is a FAT 16/32 failing.
