I have a confession.

I think Lord of the Rings is terribly boring. I fell asleep during the second movie - about half-way through, and I wasn't even watching it alone - conditions were perfect, actually. I'm sorry, but to me, it feels like a story about walking up and down stairs and while it was moderately appealing when it was "just a story", now that it's plastered all over the place and everybody and their dog loves and praises it, it has a foul aftertaste.

I watched the entire first film and I was very moderately entertained, I slept through the second one, I didn't even give the third one a chance (I think I saw the ending on telle). Considering the fact that I'm aware that The Hobbit is a cinematic scam designed to stretch out a short story into a three-movies-long epic in order to squeeze the customer's wallet dry, I'm not even mildly interested in it.

Just curious, I agree it's a scam of sorts. Now I do like Lotr, but I always liked the Hobbit more than the first 3 movies combined. But honestly I can see why you would be bored.

Foxi4 did you like inception? i fucking love it.
Inception was good, although I don't think I saw the whole thing since it didn't peak my interest at the time - another film I probably saw on the telle some undefined amount of time ago, but I liked what I saw and I remember the story for the most part.

sorry dinoh <3 for taking over your thread.

We should totally give Dinoh his Bombaboobies back, but I'll answer your question.

I value entertainment over substance, but at the same time I don't like my movies to treat me like an idiot with the exception of B-movies which are supposed to be bad. Some of my favorite movies can thus be easily predicted - I love James Cameron's "Aliens", "Terminator" and "Terminator 2", John Carpenter's "The Thing", George Lucas's "Star Wars", Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" and other beloved sci-fi masterpieces... but... at the same time, I love the Paul W.S. Anderson's "Resident Evil" series or Uwe Boll's (yyyyup...) "Postal" because they're just so delightfuly bad that it's entertaining.

If you can gather a taste from that information, I'd say that my primary interest is sci-fi, but I generally enjoy movies in which "something happens". LOTR dwelled too much for me, it was long-winded and dull when it was supposed to convey a sense of adventure. All I remember about the second movie are the stairs - I'm serious. It's a movie about climbing stairs.

You damn hipster ;O;

That's not my point. My point is that a lot of people argue that "it's good" because "it's Tolkien" and "everybody likes it" and those are not arguments to me. I found the story dull and it didn't really convince me to spend my precious time reading the no doubt far superior book. I really have a lot of fun things to do in my life and watching a couple of hairy midgets climb a volcanic staircase is not one of them. To be fair though, the war scenes were fantastic - combat was the highlight of the movies.
