They have a return policy? Then they're already a step ahead of most stores here.
Sure, except said return policy is just a bunch of unnecessary and frankly offensive hoops you have to jump through. To return
anything in CEX, you have to:
- Apply for a CEX Membership Card (...which is naturally connected with having to share your personal details with CEX and expose yourself to their lovely spam mail)
- Upon receiving the Membership Card, your return can be processed... by the clerk who was standing there all this time
- If your return is caused by your fleeting fancy, you can only return an item for in-store credit - no refunds unless the product is unopened or has some kind of a defect... in theory
Now, the way I learned about this was that I was shopping around for a PSP charger and didn't feel like paying 10 quid in GAME for a multi-platform charger - I just wanted a USB cable compatible with the PSP's plug... so I walked into CEX with my girlfriend and we bought and Essentials pack which
(according to the box) contained a charging cable - it was 2 quid so it was a good deal in comparison.
...except after buying it and opening the box, we found out that it contains everything
except the charging cable. This whole returning debacle began, all for stupid 2 quid. They thought that we're going to let it slide because it cost so little, but at the point where the clerk said
"the item is on sale because it is used, so it may have some items missing"...
No, you dips*it, when you sell something, you have to sell it as advertised or mention what's missing from the box - I'm not Superman, I can't use X-Ray vision to check if something's missing.
Mind you, all this took place in whole 15 minutes - we literally opened the box right after leaving the store. Naturally as I'm not a UK citizen, the person who had the dubious
"privilege" of becoming a CEX Membership Card owner was my girlfriend who got sick down to her stomach because she hates sharing personal details with stores. I got equally pissed off, not because of 2 stupid quid but because I actually had to explain how
"a return" is very much understandable when a box I purchased does not contain an item advertised on it
and because my girlfriend was upset.
Needless to say, our afternoon was absolutely ruined. It was the worst shopping trip we've ever experienced and we swore to never shop in CEX ever again.
