Yeah, good points sifjar. Tri core linux team is basically doing this...linux kernel with access to three processors. Marcan said he may give access to more ram and really it allows everything except Wii U mode. My view is the ps3 linux stuff openedbut nothing more. Wii U needs momentum and unless hidden, tri core team needs three cores to stay running and work together. I believe this is "smp.".

Maxternal and tri core team obviously will correct this view. Marcan I believe said it is all sand boxes. They can give some and still protect system. I get not releasing now. Let Wii U get momentum, see if interest builds, stalling by letting tri core work out three cores and that helps with dev work for others.

There was a post about firmware dump, not encrypted, figured out how to use gamepad with pc. The picture showed menu for gamepad. This had my attention:-). That is likely to be released.

I wouldn't hold my breath though, they might withhold it ;)

They figured out how communication between wiiu and gamepad is working, so they know how the wiiu is streaming it's video to the gamepad.

This could lead to showing wiiu gamepad video on other devices like a pc screen.
This could also lead to using the wiiu gamepad as display device for something like a pc.

I have no idea how this would help piracy, so piracy isn't a valid reason to keep it a secret.
We will have to be patient a few more weeks to see what comes out of it.

You need a fast wifi n connection on the 5 Gig band to stream the video if I read correctly.

Before we all start disrespecting Team f0f, let's look at some facts.

Approx a year ago, they posted in their blog that they had an exploit and that the Wiiu was hacked. They also posted they had no interest in doing any further work with it.
It's very well possible that Ninty could fix the exploit security hole with a firmware update.
If they would release the exploit to the public, I am sure Ninty would examine it and see if they could fix it.

There is still a huge amount of work to do after an exploit is found. You will need to recreate a devkitpro and libogc environment.
This will take months of work, even for a high skilled experienced group of programmers (like Team f0f) Only after the creation of such a sdk, an average programmer can create some usefull homebrew programs for the console.

As they weren't interested to do that work, they left the door open for others that showed interest and gave us a way to keep the 3 ppc cores going in vwii mode.
They said they might consider releasing the exploit if someone proved they could do something usefull with that information, like running 3 core linux on the console.

Linux would make it possible to run homebrew and emulators without opening the gate to piracy as it uses a total different software framework than retail games do.
Porting existing emulators to linux is usually a not so difficult task if a port for generic pc linux already exists.

Maybe they created a linux, or maybe they even created a homebrew sdk based upon a microkernel (comparable to devkitpro and libogc, exept that those use pretty much the same microkernel as retail wii games do)

Whenever they feel like releasing something will depend upon it's maturity at the moment and will also depend upon the fact if ninty can easily fix the exploit.

They also stated that a 3 core linux for vwii mode and the one for wiiu mode would be pretty much the same.
So it's not like all efforts done to get it running on vwii mode are a waste of time.

With Sony and Microsoft releasing their new consoles, and Steam becoming a fact, we can only hope game developers will still show interest in the Wiiu.
The others players seem to have switched to Intel (Amd) based pc hardware.
Nintendo was able to interest a large non hard core gaming public with the wii, probably due to their inventive way of controlling their games.
The Wiiu has it's gamepad which you could call innovative, but the others players could create a similar gaming experience using a tablet as display device.

One thing is a fact, if piracy would become easy on the wiiu, it won't help for developers to show interest in creating wiiu games.
Let's hope a lot of people find a wiiu under the christmas tree so that sales of it get better compared to the competitors.

Maybe they should release a placebo exploit to keep everybody happy?

In before "We have hacked it so much, look at all the hacking! We did this and this, and you can't have any. We're better than you"

Insufferable asses, really
What makes you think that you are in any shape or form entitled to take advantage of someone else's hard work? They are going to talk about hacking with hackers - this conference in no way concerns the average user. In a lot of ways, this is like a symposium for more or less learned individuals who want to discuss about hacking techniques, security measures and methods of their circumvention.

It's funny to see how people can get a bit selfish.
U HACKED IT NOW GIVE US THE EXPLOIT!

*sigh, I don't recall a rule ever saying that they have to reveal info about how to do it, especially if said info is useless to the common users. In their blog, I read some of things about how the wiiU works and even said how to take control of the Espresso CPU. The evrage user will not understand SHIT.

good facts, and here's another: its in our human nature to divide ourselves down have/have not lines, and when we're presented with a roadblock, we can either choose to build a ladder to climb over, or build a fire and attempt to burn it down.

both camps are represented in this thread, but the latter tend to get more eyeballs than the former, due to their incendiary nature.

And I don't seem to recall why they have to even bother mentioning it publicly at all. Let hackers tell hackers behind the scenes and not tell the public. It would be better than way anyways. If they're not going to reveal their exploits to people except other hackers, don't tell anyone else. They should keep it to themselves. Simple.
Why? Only because you don´t like it?
I´m no hacker, but i´m interested in this stuff (always read hackmii.com).
And i don´t want to see piracy or game modification (cheating) on WiiU.

No one said there had to be, tri-core Linux would be nice to have. All I'd want there to be are emulators, like N64 and PSX mostly. I don't care about making backups or downloading Wii U games at all. Emulation since Nintendo is damn lazy to release N64 to the VC on the Wii U, hackers do what Nintendon't.

Forgive my ignorance, but if an exploit that would allow launching unsigned code was released, couldn't homebrew devs just use the official Wii-u SDK?
I understand that is more illegal than using a homebrew SDK, but it is an option to use the official SDK right?
I mean most X360 homebrew was made using the leaked official sdk, and not the "legal" LibXenon.

When they release a full kernel exploit, the first thing to appear would be piracy, since it´s the simplest "homebrew" to make.
Locking out piracy would only be possible with some kind of (linux) layer, like SifJar explained and i bet the outcry if that happens would be even bigger then now.

Piracy is a side effect of homebrew, nothing can be done about it. Not everyone cares about playing Wii U games they don't on an HDD or whatever. Emulation is all I want. Nothing more. They're not even going to release anything anyways.

And that's exactly what the conference of hackers is about. Meaning it's not even directed at you but to the other hackers.
Haven't you realized that most of the time you know about things happening in the hacking scene is because members here post stuff about it? Hell I bet you wouldn't even know about the conference if the OP didn't even post it.

Yea I don't pay attention to them really. Or do I try to 100% a game. I just play till story ends/ or I get the girl!

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
