Hacking How to softmod hard modded wii 4.3U ?

Hi everyone!
I have a hard moded Wii (no idea what chip is in there, got it done in Toronto sometime in 2006-2007). I would like to hook my usb HDD up to it and run ISOs / WBFS from the HDD.

Question is:
1. Do I need to now softmod the Wii?
2. If not then what are the steps to get usb channel set up (I tried installing hackmii, but it says "the installed boot1 version prevents a boot2 install (-2)"
3. How can I find out what kind of chip I have installed?

Use Modmii to soft mod it with in order to play games off a USB drive.

You copy pasted the same message in many forum (afterdawn) ?
If multiple forums tells you to do different things, don't try them all or you will only combined different files which are not always compatible together.

Like ddetkowski told you, the easiest way is to use modmii (a PC program) which will download all the needed files for your Wii, and will generate a guide based on your own situation after answering some questions.
follow the guide and you will be ready to play games from USB devices.

as for your questions:
1. yes, you need to softmod (in order to patch system files to redirect Disc access to USB)
2. That's normal. Only old Wii are compatible with BootMii installed in Boot2. Just install Bootmii as IOS in the hackmii installer.
3. I suppose you need to open your console to see which modchip you have. But, you don't need to know, as softmod doesn't care which one you have. The only problem you might encounter is that Devolution (one of the available GameCube backup loader) might not work.

No. Just download the program and follow the steps. It's all pretty self-explanatory, I thought.

download and run the installer in Windows

You then run ModMii itself by just double clicking it.
ModMii then becomes a computer-generated guide in and of itself that will do a lot of the steps for you. Just answer the questions and follow it's instructions.
