Hey guys, I was just wondering...

How does Nintendo make sure that their main exclusives don't work on the gateway3ds like Pokemon and animal crossing, I heard it has to with the saving. But some people are saying that zelda, SSB, and professor layton all won't work with the gateway (on it's current firmware). I'm a nobb guys sorry.

They may force updates, make it look for a file that is only in that update, or the type of saving it uses. There are many ways they can ensure this, but GW's clever answer to this is being able to backup your 3DS and run an updated version of it off of your SD card.

NAND Save(On system save file iirc),APP(Anti Piracy Patch) or some kind of other protection.
Online on games works on a verification base.
People connect with pirated games and the online system sees that and disconnects them.(That's what i think)

Maybe cuz newer games demand newer firmwares, which are not supported (and won't be) by gateway?

Thats simply wrong and coming from you its also a lie :)

Animal Crossing and Pokemon utilize nand saving yes, other games dont work because they utilize features not present in the current firmware.
Gateway and Smealum beat this by running their own emulated / redirected nand thats updated to the current firmware :)

but GW had firware spoofing so that shouldnt be a problem

Ok to rephrase, lets says 3DS

4.5 can only use + and -
6.3 can use + - * /

So a game that needs * / wont work on 4.5 because they are simply not there !

It'll be in 2.0, which presumably will have MH4, Pokemon, Batman, Layton (I assume Azran Legacy? Is it even out yet?), Zelda, and the other games working.

They are what? Making new fw that support newer nintendo fws? Proofs? Trolling on their website doesn't count. No real testers from their team we know.
They said that on their website and they showed the compatibility with MH4 in a youtube video. I'm sure GW has their own testers for "alpha releases" before they give the files to beta testers.
Currently I believe GW that they make the new firmware but they don't have more proof (although I think that the Youtube video should be enough).

Link?

+ they could just make MH4 make work for it, but not update fw itself. For 4.5+ owners that means literally NOTHING.

The youtube video is down (belgian Anti Piracy strikes back) but you can find the link on the website (GATEWAY 3DS 2.0 SNEAK PEAK 2 OF 2).
They didn't say that they support firmwares over 4.5. emuNAND means something else.

Stop fighting, fellas. We won't know what works and what won't until the updates are out, arguing over it (or worse just yelling noise at each other) does nothing.

Anyway, I wonder why Nintendo hasn't switched to using NAND saves more, since it seems to be a bigger stumbling block.

I was surprised that any data at all is still being saved to the game cart itself.

If save data is saved to the SD card (my 3DS XL actually came with a 4GB one), it means that a lost cartridge can be replaced without losing any progress, and digital and retail versions of games can be used interchangeably.

NAND saves (at least to my understanding) don't allow this.

But you can't just use the current savestate with another system.
