So this is my current cart. Its a good cart and I've had no problems with it besides a contact problem which I fixed with tape lol.

But anyway I'm looking to update its firmware and if my understanding is right this is considered an r4 clone, if someone could place link me to the proper firmware, I have already downloaded the one I think is the right one "woodr4 1.4x"

Also is ysmenu just a differnt firmware compared to wood or is it an add on ?

Also I'm thinking of buying an Acekard cart could someone point to a dependable place to pick one up, and the best cart verison.

And thank you in advance.

Most R4 clones drop support after 1 or 2 updates on the DSi/3DS. I suggest you DON'T upgrade your DSi/3DS.

This usually means whatever is currently available to your flashcart wither you downloaded it or not is pretty much all your going to get in terms of "updates".

ALL R4 clones more or less now rely on the wood firmware, due to the fact that they can no longer hack their own updates or support newer games into their original game manager.

---

If you can run a legit version of wood R4, you can just use the Download section here and download the latest wood R4. Otherwise your just stuck with whatever version that is currently on your R4.

I should have said that my cart is currently running wood, I for some reason thought that there was a version just for clones and I wasn't sure what I needed.

That depends on the R4 clone. The current clones have the website printed on sticker, they tend to have a hacked version of wood running as the game manager. Yours doesn't have one, it means it is a pretty old clone.

In the link has the clones that are supported. You can buy a new clone if you like, preferably one that supports a legit version of wood. If you can't install the latest wood version on your clone, your stuck with whatever hacked version of wood that you currently have.

Well if I remember correctly the original fireware was the last r4 firmware and I updated it then to play the golden sun, so yeah ill see if it can run the newest wood and go from there.

Also if you look at my first post I did have a question about buying a new cart, thanks for the help btw

No it isn't. 1:1 clones support 2GB or less.

It says SDHC on the sticker.

No offense but I already answered that, you didn't understand the answer the first time.

You only got 2 clones to choose from, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn) or R4iDSN (r4idsn.com). Pick one, then use shoptemp to find a vendor that sells the clone you want.

Acekard flashcarts are not clone, they are like the other flashcarts found in the other sections here dead, it is a dead flashcart unless you plan to only play on a DS or DSL.

On a DSi, AK2i stop working on anything higher than 1.4.4.
On a 3DS, AK2i stopped woring on anything higher than 4.3.0.10.

The only flashcart other than R4 clones that isn't dead is the Supercard DSTWO.

actually on the ds lite i would suggest you try to track down an ak 2.1. it does not suffer from the contact issues of the 2i. however, it hasn't been manufactured for a few years so finding one new might be somewhat of a challenge.

Top of the line would be the DSTwo, but AK2.1 does the job well enough if you only plan on playing NDS games.
(Both are pretty much identical in terms of playing NDS backups. DSTwo has real-time saves and slow-mo mode, but that's it.)

There's also the ability to activate cheats in game, as opposed to before you launch the game, as well as free cheat, where you make your own cheats. The real time guide (guide in-game) can be handy too. You can also easily manage multiple save files, in addition to the save states.

I'm confused though, what's wrong with your old card that makes you want to get a new one?

If your not planning to sell or trade in the DS within a few years a AK2.1 will do.

If your planning to in a few years get a new handheld like the 2/3DS/XL then getting a DSTWO will keep you up to date, so long as it is still supported by the time you update. (likely to not work on any next gen handheld.)
