talking about gateway 2.0 version

so basically it allow us to update from 4.5 to >6.2 safely without having the gateway function compromised right?

and maybe plays animal crossing with NAND save or something?

No, the 3DS will still have to be 4.5, but the Gateway card will convince games that the console is 6.2 so the games will run without forcing you to update your 3DS.

I think.

EDIT: I got schooled.

the NAND Dump is to then be placed on the SD card, then the exploit uses that NAND instead, so the internal NAND still has 4.5 so you keep the Kernel Exploit and then you load the Launcher.dat next time it uses the NAND on the SD card which you can update and the Launcher.dat can still apply patches to it before its loaded, so its not actually spoofing and has all the latest 3DS files

NAND emulation will give you access to features of the higher firmware, like e-Shop for example. I think simple firmware spoofing doesn't allow that. It will also let you run retail game cards (that would normally require you to update your firmware), without having to actually update the firmware.

The console itself will still have 4.5 firmware.

Welcome to patiently waiting for 2.0 to release. Sure, you could play all the older 3DS titles that are now available to you. But instead, you'll play the waiting game with the rest of us!

You will only be able to use your e-shop purchased software within your emulated 6.2 NAND.

This will require you to enter the exploit to access 6.2 features.

Without activating the exploit, it's business as per usual on 4.5 (ie. no e-shop etc. (

it's like having a dual firmware both 4.5 and 6.3 on 1 system, the 4.5 is used for running Gateway while the 6.3 is used to access e-shop(which require latest firmware) and having latest system stability and new features not found on 4.5

You'd think so, I'm in the same boat but I still check here obsessively! Only while I'm at work though. Stupid work.

so will you be able to play retail games lets say my pokemon x online too?

We just don't know yet, but online play is unlikely.

Thats bad news :/ cause i mean pokemon half the fun is online with wondertrade, battling, trading and friend safary. Like the new super smash bros whats the point in not being able to play it online against other people :/ I mean I'm not going to pirate games that are worth buying but if this is true if i buy a gateway with 2.0 and buy games in the shop i wont be able to play them fully. I hope they find a way that would be amazing. Fingers crossed :)

Either buy a second 3DS or don't use devices like Gateway. Even if they get online working, you'll probably end up getting your 3DS banned from all Nintendo online services as they can always tell when you are using a modified device. Heck they could detect 360 drive hacks online!

If you look at the update history on gateways main page there is only about 3 days between the announcement that they released the beta of 1.1a and its actual release. I thought their last update on the 1st of this month indicated that the beta for 2.0 is being tested; since the changes between 1.2 and 2.0 are larger ones I'd expect the beta period to be a little longer (you also have to factor in that with the release of the clones, they need to abilities of 2.0 to set them apart from the competition).
It's been almost exactly 2 months since 1.2 came out, and they first showed off 2.0 a little over a month ago. So adding all those facts together its not unreasonable to expect 2.0 within the next week or two. Of course this is really all just speculation on my part.
With that being said, if they are beta testing the 2.0 firmware right now then team must be really small, otherwise I would have expected to see the beta leaked somewhere.

We can only hope. And check every day. And obsess over it. And speculate. And make threads and threads and threads.

I bearly got any money for a game or two every couple of months let alone a second 3DS plus a gateway. Im hoping for future hacks and karts that might bring us a full experience.

Well buying a 2DS only for online would only set you back the price of two games. And a gateway is the price of one and a half games!

But I take your point, I wasn't trying to be elitist but the reality of piracy is that you are always going to be locked from online or face the risk of being banned. I got my 360 banned and I had used the online features once. Not that I cared as based on that statement you can tell I'm not that into online multiplayer.

The other problem with hacked consoles online is that inevitably if the pirates are there, so are the hackers (they may even be the same people!). So you lose the nice even playing field that console online usually provides. And once that's gone, whats the point really. Just look at Mario Kart Wii (although I must admit that being in those races as a non hacker was absolutely hilarious).

actually the Gateway runs int the RedNAND Firmware also, which can be any version
the Launcher.dat can apply patches to it hence why the newer games work

4.5 is purely kept for booting the Exploit on top of the RedNAND (the NAND Dump)
