Hey all just wondering if GBAtemp was planning on doing secret Santa this year. It worked out well last year and def think we should do it again.

Thoughts?

Last I heard it was damning difficult to get a lot of people interested. :( Might not happen this year, what with all the scammers and things that happened.

Last year we nominated ourselves for secret Santa and then were paired up with another temper round the world and sent each other a gift via post for christmas. Members who nominated themselves and don't send a gift ended up being banned or warned, can't remember which one

Awww that sucks I had a pleasant experience and sent something as well. It'll suck if they don't give it another shot

^ exactly that.

Even tho it's super hard to find a small gift (in me experience it was xd)
It just feels so incredibly good to send something small to someone n_n

It would be easier if we'd get to know a few things on what the other person wants instead of just an adress.

I wish I could've participated last year/participate this year, but sending stuff abroad costs a fortune.
Damn, I hate living here sometimes.

The one last year was user created and was not considered a GBAtemp sponsored event. This is due to the possibility people wouldn't send out a gift but get one. I have no plans to host one again this year due to the failure of the last one. Barely anyone signed up, some people didn't send out gifts, and the postal system is so bad that some people didn't get their gifts until March. (It was incredibly hard to tell if people really did send out gifts and the postal system is just slow or if they were lying about sending it out.)

No offense to most of the members here, but when you have a forum somewhat centered around playing video games for free or cheap, you're going to have people try to take advantage of that by thinking they can get free stuff and no one would be the wiser if they didn't send anything out. I have a feeling that a few tried this and were guilted into sending something later the next year, and to save face, claimed that it was the fault of the USPS. (A quick glance at the date stamp would tell you everything you need to know.)

Maybe only allowing people with 500+ posts would solve the issue of not sending out.
But yeh, ofcourse advantage of it will be made.
Shame tho cause it's a lovely event.

I've been given the go ahead to do this if I so wish.

Would there be sufficient interest in it or should I just leave it be

I'd be willing to secret santa. nothing finer than mystery candy from another country to brighten my day. I really wish we had the community needed to make this a success like i-mockery.com
