Hacking Whats the best model to buy that can play downloaded games?

i want to buy a used psp online and have been doing research about the models. im stuck between 2000 and 3000. the only thing that makes me wanna buy 3000 is cause its a newer model Im down for that model but some say its hard to hack and cant play iso games (but the used psps i saw i think is already iso ready). If i get the 2000 is there not much difference? I wanna just base my decision by price but theyre almost the same.

All of the PSP's are hackable these days, no matter what firmware they're running or what model they are.

The only real differences are that the 3000 has a microphone while the 2000 does not, however early (Data Code 8B or lower) PSP-2000's are Pandora-Compatible (which means more recovery options since you can re-flash a bricked system) while the late PSP-2000's and onwards are not.

The only possible inconvenience you may experience with the PSP-3000 in comparison to the PSP-2000 is if the PSP-3000 was running a 6.20+ firmware in which case you'd have to use Fast Recovery in order to switch from OFW to CFW each boot, however it's hardly a problem and you can downgrade if you choose to do so to use a permanent CFW solution.

Im jst double checking if the 3000 is hackable so i would know that these used psps arent bricked. Cause i know someone who has a 3000 and when you reboot the psp, the games are gone and you have to re-hack it. They say its a "hen" psp". Im afraid that is gonna be the problem.

i really do want the 3000 cause its an upgrade to the 2000 and its the same price as 2000. Whats more durable and brick-free model anyway?

An early PSP-2000 (pre-8B Data Code, can be found in the battery compartment) is practically 99% brick-free as it's cIPL-compatible and can be flashed straight from the memory stick even when the original flash is corrupt.

Post-8B models are functionally identical to the PSP-3000 model minus the microphone, making them the least desirable purchase out of the three options.

The PSP-3000 shouldn't cause you any problems whatsoever with bricking provided you don't do anything you don't understand with the firmware and follow instructions when you do modify it - everyday use has zero chances of bricking the console.

HEN stands for "Homebrew Enabler", HEN's have been practically out of use for a few years now and the only remaining similar exploit is the PRO Team's Fast Recovery application. The PSP-3000 on firmware 6.20 can booth straight into the custom firmware just fine while 6.20+ consoles boot into stock firmware. To enter the custom firmware, you simply select Fast Recovery from the Game menu which reboots the system and there you have it, the CFW is ready to use. The procedure isn't a "re-hack" and takes a couple seconds, but if it bothers you, you can downgrade the system with ease (and caution).

I currently don't have the time to look through the PSP's you posted, I hope someone else will be able to help you out in that regard.

Wait, my psp 2000 could use a pandora battery, and that was bought years after it was released!

Do you know immediately if a psp is brick? Considering the sellers already hacked their psps.
Once its hacked, there's no risk of bricking it right? (Unless I do something weird)

Pandora batteries are batteries that use an exploit while they're in the psp that triggers it to run a firmware installer from the memory stick when holding L/R

I actually used that "hen" psp 3000 a few yrs back and he taught me how to revert back to the games and it was kinda hard since u have to wait for that file to appear. And if you reboot the psp, will the game progress be saved? If u said it was a 4-second procedure then I'm fine with that. But is that safer?

As I've said earlier, the best balance between functionality vs. safeness is the PSP-2000 with a Data Code of 8B or lower, but they're hard to obtain and the PSP-3000 is perfectly safe provided you don't screw around with the firmware without knowing what you're doing.

If you're solely interested in gaming then the PSP-3000 is going to be a lighter, more durable, better built machine with better battery life, however opinions about the screen are divided. If you're in any way interested in modifying the firmware yourself or some heavy customization going beyond the level of changing the theme, an early PSP-2000 might be the one for you, however getting one with a low Data Code is a pain in the ass because nobody lists that kind of data on auctions.

I personally chose the PSP-2000 and I'm very happy with it, but as it stands today, the PSP-3000 is probably the better model for casual use. The reboot time isn't really a bother and you can nullify it altogether either by downgrading (there are rich and detailed guides hosted in the PSP hacking section which will guide you safetly through the process) or simply by using sleep mode. A PSP-3000 is also likely to be more well-kept since it's a more recent model, so I suppose I'm going to recommend that instead of risking a PSP-2000 which may or may not be a revision you want. Unless you find a PSP-2000 with an 8B Data Code and in good condition, the PSP-3000 is the way to go.

Ok ill probably go with the 3000 but since i saw an ad that is 50% cheaper than the 2000. Thanks.

by the way about the battery life, im confused cause they say the 3000 has less battery life than 2000. Or is there not much of a difference?

I was pretty convinced that the PSP-3000 had superior battery life until you mentioned that users claim otherwise, hmm... In any case, it's all probably very comparable since both machines are running on very similar motherboards. According to SCE America, the battery life difference between the units is 20-30 minutes in favor of the PSP-2000 due to the newer, brighter screen.

If you can get the PSP-3000 50% cheaper then by all means get the PSP-3000. Hacking it, even by yourself, is incredibly easy procedure in this day and age, all you literally do is put a couple files on your Memory Stick, run the installer and you're set, mostly risk-free as well as the CFW only ever resides in the console's RAM or a FLASH partition unused by the system itself, it's highly recommended that you do so as it does bring numerous improvements such as plugins, CPU/Memory Stepping control etc. which will greatly improve your overall experience with the unit.
