On June 27, 2013, the following network services, available through the Wii console, were discontinued and can no longer be used:

  • Forecast Channel
  • News Channel

  • Nintendo Channel
  • Check Mii Out Channel
  • Data exchange between Wii friends using WiiConnect24
This includes Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, use of the Wii Number, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles.

Never used any of them.
In the good old days, Consoles were used for Games...not for Wheater, News or trailers..

Simply. Gaming.

Can you still register new friends on the Wii Speak channel even though the Wii Messaging service/Wii Number are useless now?

I was also wondering if Wii codes would still work. I asked around if anyone wants to try but nobody even cared. :(
I just completely turned off WC24 by now.

I would like to try Wii Speak Channel friend registering but I only have it installed on my Wii U, and I can't add friends because it pulls from the address book! I tried adding my Wii so it would be friends with my Wii U but that never worked because I only registered within the Wii Speak Channel and not the Message Board.

a late answer, but no, the Wii Speak friend-adding stopped working along with the WiiConnect24 shutdown.

The Wii Speak did work however on the games like City Folk or Conduit. I have them and used it there all until May 20th shutdown. It was great fun, I loved the Wii Speak
