I know this is not interesting for the most of people, but just take a look...

USD $1,833.14: If you live in Brazil thats what would have to pay for a PS4. The price was officialy annouced on PS Blog, wich makes $825.12 more expensive than a Xbox One here.

With the announced value of R$ 3999, here in Brazil you can buy, for example, 1,544 litres of gasoline (or 407 US Gallons).

Anyway, there is aways a way to import stuff from USA...

That is absurd. Sony can't honestly imagine that they will sell many consoles in South America. For a console at launch that price is completely unrealistic. Are electronic goods imported into Brazil often charged such high taxes?

But if you really want one, you better start saving your Reais!

Maybe at least in Brazil, but in Colombia it's a little more affordable, $1'300.000, thats about US$650

Many Brazilians said that is the Taxes, wich is not the case. If I import from USA, pay all the taxes I'll receive my PS4 in 7 to 40 days at the value of US $688 (sometimes customs let it go trought without any tax, but it is a matter of luck). Thats why most of people here just import, it is easy and cheaper.

And I cant explain why it cost so mutch. They just dont respect us I think. Another detail is that a small part of PS4 will be produced in Brazil, so they are charging this ammount of money on a national product.

Hmm.. Interesting of you to bring this up. It's kinda absurd, that you have to pay such a large amount for something like this. Brazil among many South American countries have it rough partly due to the protectionism that the countries practice. I'm working (and studying) in the Mech Engineering business and it's actually more profitable to import parts, assemble and sell in the final destination compared to using the same people elsewhere. You ask how much more profitable? Depending on the product, easily 50% cheaper, sometimes even 100%. While it doesn't make the whole price, it's partly this and something else. Possibly the price will fall once the other markets get saturated.

While I live in the EU area, Finland gets the short straw in pretty much everything in the same way the UK does. Except more than often we get it mostly even worse. Our VAT is at 24% at the present time and for some unknown reasons, we pay more for the PS4 compared to any other EU/EURO country. And our importer is Sony Europe/Finland. I've even contacted quite a few retailers and even Sony and they've all said that the prices paid by the Finnish subsidiaries are way more than the amount to make the 399e starting price possible.

ps. I haven't ordered my PS4 from any Finnish retailer. A pity that Bluray is still area coded in some sense, which makes it kinda problematic to import a US console. Current exchange rates gives my PS4 bundle at $710 vs the $499 in the US. If I bought it from Finland, it'd go for $800+. Not near your rates, but getting there :P

Yikes! Completely unrealistic expectations, seeing that the Brazilian market is the only one on which the SEGA Master System and SEGA Genesis are still manufactured and sold, the PS2 is holding up just fine and current generation systems are practically for the rare, privileged gamer. It's literally cheaper to import one from somewhere else than get one from a retailer at that price. Here's for hoping that they'll slash that price to a more approachable one because this is pretty ridiculous.

I'd still go for the PS4 over the Xbone, but no, I wouldn't ever pay that much for a system.

1 USD equals 2.15 Brazilian RL. That still leaves about 800. If that's all from the tax rate, that's really high. But maybe that's from the country offering a significant amount of public services.

F... F... f... fo... four HUNDRED gallons of gas?!?! Why do I not live in your country?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this, but game developers and publishers are ripping people off; I mean, that's ridiculously insane. Here's where I tell you guys I didn't buy a PS3 because they were so darned expensive. Now, with all this hype about the updated graphic engines and shit, they're boosting the prices even more. Has anyone else heard that most people are only going to get one console out of 3 because they are so darned expensive? So, based on this, the Wii U will sell shit since no one is releasing games for it. They're devoting their time to releasing games for the PS4 since people are still iffy about the Xbone.

I know they'll never do this, but I wish they would reduce the price of both video game consoles and video games. Doesn't stuff that costs $5.00 USD sell better than stuff that costs $15.00? << DISCLAIMER!!! These prices are not intended to represent what game prices should be, but is just an example of high prices vs. low prices.

I have figured out why the PS4 costs so much in Brazil!!!

It's because of the warranty from Sony... All those replaced PS4's from one person!!!

The max tax rate for imports is 60% so it is USD 399 * 1,6 = USD 638. Taxes are not the excuse.

If an individual buy a air ticket from Sao Paulo to New York on PS4 release day, it will cost no more than USD 1.300 for example. So NOTHING justify this PS4 price.

About Brazilian public services... hospitals, for example, are free of charge, but you if go inside a hospital with a broken hand you will leave it without an arm. The police is great too, if you are alone, they will throw cocaine inside your car and arrest you for trafic.
