Glorious PC gaming master race reporting in.

Meh... I'll be waiting for the far superior PC version.

Blasphemy! The glory of the master race shall not be disputed! Only by switching to PC gaming can one achieve enlightment!

Consoles have "soul"? All a console is is a low-end PC with 90% of the functionality stripped away.

PC gaming is also vastly cheaper. Games only cost a tenth as much as they do on consoles.

Honestly, it'll be a good thing if consoles fall. They're the biggest thing holding back game developers forcing them to cater to obsolete hardware and reducing the ability of indie devs to publish due to the high price of SDKs. They use closed-ecosystems, allowing corporations to charge as much as they want without competition. Unlike on PC where you have Steam, Origin, GOG.com, Gamer's Gate, as well as physical distribution all competing with each other. Consoles are solely designed for publishers to make money. The very concept of a dedicated console doesn't make sense anymore. PC hardware is getting cheaper and console hardware is lagging further behind even with the next-get. I await all the console gamers who will likely jump boat if a crash was to actually occur.

You think you're phone has more power than you $1000 PC just because it's quad-core vs dual-core. Do you have any idea how CPUs work? Architecture and die size is much more important than core count. X86 is WAY more powerful than ARM. Compare IPS instead of core count, and when you do, you'll find that a low-end dual-core Core i3 is many times more powerful than the CPU in the GS4.

Have you also compared GPUs? GPU is 70% gaming performance. PC GPUs are WAY more powerful than anything you'll find inside a smartphone. The most powerful mobile GPU actually happens to be the one in the GS4, the Andreno 330. The Andreno 330 pushes about 150 GFLOPS, which is in between the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of power. Even a medium range PC GPU like thre GTX 760 pushes 2200 GFLOPs. Over 10 times more powerful. And if you compare a high-end PC GPU like the GTX Titan, you're taking about 4500 GFLOPS.

Mobiles may kill handhelds, but they will never kill the glory that is PC gaming.

If you think that's "high quality", you haven't seen how good games look on PC. The above visuals are average at best.

Oh really? Would thou care to explain how a console is "greater than" the glorious shine that is a gaming PC?

Does it have to do with the fact that consoles deliver inferior graphics and framerates? Or is it something to do with the fact that the games on consoles are more expensive? Or are you going to bring the argument that you like being locked to a single company's ecosystem? Do you enjoy having limited choices over peripherals? Or you enjoy not being able to experience mods and other player-created content? Do you dislike multitasking? Or not being able to work and play on the same machine? Do you find it enjoyable to be stuck with the same old hardware for over 7 years? And lastly, do you enjoy long loading screens?

I think I made my point.

This is actually one member that I find the dumbest.

He doesn't say anything back. And also apparently if you play retro games as a main source of games, it means according to him, you're crazy for playing outdated games.

That, and he fails to understand that since the dawn of the industry, consoles were always the testing grounds for new technology. Who had a desktop computer with a dual-CPU and dual-GPU setup like the Sega Saturn did back in the day? Who had a 64-bit computer during the Nintendo 64's life span? Even today, who has a CELL-equiped computer (because CELL is actually a fantastic science processor that gets a whole lot of work done)?

It's a well-known fact that most video game consoles during the first couple of years from their release surpass similarly-priced PC rigs in terms of performance - it was a tried-and-true method back then and it's tried-and-true now because optimization for the hardware gives such unified systems the edge that only high-performance, costly rigs can even hope to match.

...but of course we have to forget about all that since now, after what? 7 years mid-range, affordable PC's caught up to what the XBox 360 and the PS3 do with their meager specs. I may not have a rocket of a PC - it's an i3 with 4GB RAM and a GeForce 520MX so it's fine for moderate gaming but my PS3 just does it better, not to mention that PSN connects me with all my gaming buddies and services.

Sure, so does Steam, but it's just one of may services. PC is fragmented and it's this fragmentation that often gives consoles the edge, at least initially and it's not going to change anytime soon because, news flash, video game consoles are made specifically for gaming and they're tweaked for that particular purpose while PC's are made for general computing, including gaming.

My PC is only a dual core 4GB with a 450GTS. It's okay for casual gaming. I mean, Batman Arkham City has PhysX and I really don't see all the hubbub. I can see extra particles, big whoop.

In order to upgrade it, I would have to spend a couple hundred on a graphics card, hundred or so for a new processor, and then more for RAM. Or I could just spend 300 dollars on a console which really gives me the same experience as I would find on a PC.

The Oculus Rift isn't a console. It's a peripheral that according to interviews with Oculus VR, targets PC gaming.

Also, before Kirito discovered the Nerve Gear, he was a PC gamer evident by the triple-monitor gaming rig in his room as well as his former obsession with MMOs, an almost PC-exclusive genre.

That, and he fails to understand that since the dawn of the industry, consoles were always the testing grounds for new technology. You can build a PC for $470 to match the PS4/Xbox One:

AMD FX 6300 - $105
AMD Radeon HD 7850 - $140
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P motherboard - $50
500 GB WD Blue - $50
2 x 4 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (any generic brand) - $50
Thermaltake PurePower 430-Watt Power Supply - $35
Any cheap generic case - $40

And do you really think that the N64 had a 64-bit CPU? Only it's GPU was 64-bit, and 64-bit PC GPUs did exist at the time. The N64's CPU was only 32-bit.

Equivalent specs do not provide an equivalent performance. You and I both know that such a rig would run like ass when it comes to next generation games.

The N64's CPU is a variety of VR4300 by NEC and is a 64-bit CPU which can pass a 64-bit instruction or two 32-bit instructions instead. In other words, you're wrong.

Exactly, why else would it be called the N64?

It won't be much off as the PS4/Xbox One are both AMD x86/AMD Radeon based, meaning that there don't really exist any type of programming tricks that developers can use to squeeze any extra power out of them.

Variant is the key word here. It's a 32-bit variant of the VR4300. In other words, learn to read the whole article.

i thought it was called because it had 64 games.

DIRTY NINTENDO PEASANTS.

Ah, of course! That makes a lot more sense! :creep:

And at anyone who says it's 32-bit
hauthanh.info/animeDownload/anime/Digimon_Savers.html

Under features, the third bullet point clearly says "64-bit architecture"

Oh, that's just cute. So it's the architecture's fault now, is it? Let's completely forget that these are not stock AMD Jaguars, that they have additional embedded functionality, that the OS is specifically made to be lightweigh...

The VR4300 is a variant of the MIPS R4300i, the differences between them are cosmetic, the only considerable one is the width of the bus. The architecture is 64-bit and is entirely capable of 64-bit precision operations, but you don't have to believe me, just believe Wikipedia.

Like I said, you're wrong, and now you're acting like you're five and don't really know what you're talking about. You can stop now though.

Exactly, looking at the specs on NEC's page, http://www.nec.co.jp/press/en/9711/1401-01.html
the CPU has a 64-bit architecture
