While these products are still in development, we need your help. As always, we believe the best way to ensure that the right products are getting made is to let people try them out and then make changes as we go. We have designed a high-performance prototype that’s optimized for gaming, for the living room, and for Steam. Of course, it’s also completely upgradable and open.

This year we’re shipping just 300 of these boxes to Steam users, free of charge, for testing. You can make yourself eligible to get one. How? Read on!

Just look at that icon in the image for the second announcement. The first announcement, SteamOS, was an O. This one is [O] => SteamOS in a box => Steambox. This makes me think the last one might be connectivity/multiplayer/community related.

Steampowered will now become Gaspowered. Twice the power in half the time. Combined with SteamOS will bring life into the living room.

Maybe true. But what if the announcement that is made today is already SteamBox... what could the final announcement be?
Half Life 3 certainly would be a huge driving force in terms of downloads/installs/sales of SteamOS/SteamBox if its, lets say prior to hitting stores, only available via Steam/SteamOS.

Lol, tbh i think they never had any intention of going to episode 3 just to avoid the number 3. It probably would have been Half Life: Season 2, Episode 1

Usually there's some for big conferences but not like... Valve stuff.

Also anyone thinking they're announcing a game is pretty dumb. It's just gonna be Steam OS, something relating to user interaction with Steam OS, and Steamboxes. The announcements are about Steam in the living room, not games.

Just because Valve is putting 48 hour breaks between each announcement doesn't mean that each announcement deserves a separate thread - just update the main thread, guys.

That said: I'm with that leak that's floating around. The reason is that it makes sense: with steamOS, valve has created a demand for semi-console pc's. It would be stupid of them NOT to fill the gap as soon as possible.

Because, y'know, a semi-console PC (HTPC?) couldn't run Steam before... right? Right?

It's really a mirracle what a little bit of marketing hype can cause. A powerful HTPC with Windows 8 on-board already blows your average console away and thanks to the use of tiles, the GUI is perfect for on-TV use.
