I see a lot of people talking about it, and I found one post saying how it's not worth buying, but he didn't explain why. I'm considering getting it, but I know nothing about it besides its price.

Cons:
The price.
You can't keep the 3DS up to date.
You can't play some of the latest games IF you do purchase them, because they may require a firmware update that blocks the Gateway.
You can't access the eShop, as it may ask you to update.
Playing online may be risky, since you're on a hacked cartridge and all
You're not funding game devs if you steal games, unless you just plan to "backup" a game you own, or use it for homebrew.
FOR NOW the Gateway can only carry a single game on the SD card, so you have to keep doing the swapperoo!

Pros:
Lets you play most/all 3DS games for absolutely free(after you pay about $80)... except Animal Crossing... for now.

You won't be able to play Pokemon X and Y, even if you buy it.

This is pretty assumed, but we don't know this for a fact. We really don't know anything for a fact. What we do know is that officially, when updates come in game carts, the 3DS restricts launching that cart if the included update is not applied (unless of course the 3DS' firmware version is higher than the cart update). Outside of that, it's all just speculation.

Cons:

Give Nintendo your money and stop downloading games

Pros and cons are subjective, but basically: if you use Gateway, you cannot use the eShop, or any kind of online gaming. If you go online for streetpass or whatever, you run the risk of your console updating itself or downloading an update that you may accidentally install. So if that sounds bad to you, don't get it, or be like me, and get two 3DSes. Pros: you can play a ton of games.

MH4 had AP which needed a file from the 3DS update, which would require editing the firmware to crack.
Editing the firmware is beyond what Gateway team can do.

I'm not arguing that at all. What I'm saying is you're assuming Pokemon X/Y will have the same kind of AP. We don't know that as we don't have a Pokemon X/Y ROM to base our claims off of. It's just all speculation right now. You're more than likely right, but stating this information as fact isn't.

Considering how hard Game Freak has been trying with their APs in the past games, it's safe to assume that X and Y will have something similar.

My point is, seeing is believing. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully expecting Game Freak to put some kind of AP on X/Y, but I'm not believing it as fact until I see it.

Is it right to assume that all future 1st party titles will require update (forced update? probably not but probably will prompt you upon inserting the game/rom) and that the gateway3ds is only going to be working with the titles released prior to itself? seems like ~$90 isn't worth it for a crippleware card.

Are you not aware that the Gateway now supports firmware spoofing?
