So I now am a proud owner of both of these cards (thanks to you guys for helping with the decision)!

Once I've hacked the 3DS system, is there any use to the Gateway blue card? Can I just use the r4 card for future hacking purposes or does it have to be the gateway blue card? What about for ds roms?

Thanks guys!

EDIT: Just so you know I bought the official one from r4ids.cn

I'm not entirely sure what R4i you got, but I'll tell you my experience. I got r4i gold pro from r4i-gold.com and I like it way more then GW blue (GWB) one. First of all, gateway installer works on both cards. No problems at all. Second, I like default skin of R4i way more. GWB skin is total garbage. This is of course fixable (replace with your favorite one). The main complain for me with GWB was "Loading..." screen on some games. This happened to me on the old r4i firmware, but it got fixed after update latest 1.62 update. TLDR: R4i.

As far as I know any DS flash cart should work to install the exploit. Try it and see.

My only other DS flash cart is an original R4 that, sadly, doesn't work on my 3DS, so I'm using the Gateway Blue for DS games. It does the job. I did have to change the text color on the bottom screen so that it was actually legible, though.

Anyone knows how to replicate the Red GW Card behavior? Already bought the R4i3ds gold a long time ago and hoping it can do the trick.

There's no way, the Red Gateway is the only one that runs 3DS roms by now.
Also, even if you get to reprogram the DSi flashcards (case of your R4i) most of them will lack some piece of hardware or enough memory to hold the bootloader program necessary to use the Gateway exploit and load 3DS roms.
