Ok I'm mainly a Wii guy, but have recently picked up an xbox with the latest version of LT+. I can't understand how people manage to get banned with tools such as ABGX floating around. This seems to do all the required patching and stuff.

So it got me to thinking, how would one go about creating a disc that will ban the xbox surely I would have to go out of my way to do such a thing? I have no intention of ever using this console online so would like to try to get a ban for the giraffe.

Bans came down earlier for using early releases that were not dumped the best, just plain early and other such things. Similarly there were probably ways of detecting the DVD mods of the time.

First though what dashboard version are you on? Depending upon the version you may have an easier time for doing RGH or something like it and if you are not going online you might as well have all the perks like USB loading, hard drive loading, region free, hacked games, XBLA, DLC and the rest.

As for actually being banned I am really not sure these days, about the only ones we ever hear of coming down are the usual "act worse than the rest of the cretins that inhabit xbox live" bans. You could probably get something done if you played around with a RGH kernel but to do that you would have probably asked "is there a simple way to get banned with DVD mods?" instead and already been a fair programmer.

Well, I know that the dash is not eploitable, well not the JTAG route anyways. RGH sounds interesting, but if I'm being honest I really don't intend on using the xbox that often. Would messing with the SS or even not patching/removing topology data even let a disc boot? Would the result be a flag?

I'm honestly just curious, there seems to be pages and pages of people whining that they are banned when searching, and ways and means of avoiding a ban. However no one, it appears that no one have a mess with trying to intentionally ban a console :D

I have had some serious failed burns (as in a couple of hundred megs of already questionable burn from a dying drive) still boot in the past but most of those were of good isos in the first place and a lot of the bans were for running way early releases (Halo seemed to always get them) with obviously terrible SS and co.

Normally I would probably say something like "duality of knowledge" but I have also read the "means of avoiding a ban" threads and they seem only slightly ahead of peer guardian people in terms of silly rituals to avoid being troubled, I guess you came to a similar conclusion though. It has been years since a modding ban for anything other than JTAG and co and even then MS seemed to store it up and go in waves.

As for not using it that often. Modern games require you to have a special drive as well as a supply of dual layer discs (something that I have to get online for the most part, at least if I do not want to darken the doors of PC world)... on RGH they work the same as they ever did (extract and copy over). Similarly if you decide you have had enough of the 360 (and if you had a PS3 and/or a moderate PC through all this then there is not a lot you missed out on) then you can far more easily flip an RGH modded 360.

Why would you ban your xbox...

Get a already banned one if you're keen on getting a banned one...

Well it's an old phat version, that was given to me for free as the tray stopped reading discs, a bit of TLC and it works, albeit with a little patience. The reason for trying to get it banned? In all honesty it is just to see how far I could go before MS strikes with the ban hammer.

Also I am still quite puzzled how people are still managing to get banned when there are tools like ABGX as stated in my OP. You could say "People aren't using ABGX, that's why they're getting banned" But what exactly is causing the ban that ABGX is fixing?

Sorry if that is confusing, I can't quite get it into words :)

Play a leaked game a month before release, guaranteed ban.

AP2.5 failures aren't bannable anymore since even legit consoles can get flagged.
As for people getting banned by not using ABGX.
It's 99% likely due to the Topology data not in place or being blank.
Enough of those triggers will release MS's ban hammer upon you.
Well that and playing games way to early.

Not really.
They usually don't look at a day or 2 before release.
But if you're playing it a week before release then yes, you will recieve a ban.

That's the old Xbox.
360 still has a Live service and OP clearly stated he has a modded DVD drive (something that wasn't available on the old Xbox)

What's the point? Just keep it offline...
If you ever want to sell it, it will sell better if it's not banned.
No one knows exactly how people get banned, some ways are surefire of getting you banned (e.g. going online with a JTAG 360) but others are more hit and miss.

It's an interesting experiment to try getting it banned, but there's no surefire way of doing so with just a DVD drive mod, and it will resell for less. Not worth it IMO.
Your best bet is just not bothering with ABGX and playing new releases and such and over time you will get banned. Also it helps having a really old version of iXtreme as they were easier to detect.

Thanks for the defence. However there was a firmware mod for the original Xbox Samsung drives if iI remember correctly ;)

Just so you know playing early release will get your gamertag banned too.
