Hardware Building an arcade stick (well, a 2-button arcade stick...)

Hello tempers!

I want to build a small 2-button... thing? So no actual joystick or anything, just 2 buttons that works on a PC via USB.

I've looked at some boards and buttons and, well, I'm not too sure what I'm doing.

I was looking at this board because it was one of the cheaper ones I could find. So then what, do I just buy some buttons, some wires it and make a little wooden box? Or are there things the buttons are supposed to sit in? I thought this would be rather simple and now I'm just confused.

That thing looks like it would work well for what you want.

Yes, you would need to build your own housing and buy buttons for it. Depending on how this chip works, you may need to be concerned about de-bouncing the switches. If you have no idea what that means, you're in over your head.

Try to find a spec sheet for the item in question detailing how it works. Short of that, you're up shit creek without a paddle in regards to determining the best way to wire everything up.

You know this will prob end up costing you more then buying an arcade joystick. They are 15-30 usd on amazon. But I like to do diy projects myself so, I understand if thats what your doing.

they are easy to setup have quick connects and work as a standard usb device with no needed drivers.

If you have no idea what you're doing, then just buy one.
You'll just end up buying this stuff, wrecking it, tossing it, and then buying a premade stick. Bam, double the cost for the same result.
