Some guys from a community for custom handhelds got together to start a hardware project, to be later taken to Kickstarter.
Well, first it was a all-in-one super retro handheld ...but, later on, they changed the project entirely to a WiiU gamePad-like controller, that can stream hypothetically, almost everything (the pc, steam, ps3, xbox 360, ouya, tv signal, and so on) ...wireless, in real time, and in high definition (hard to believe, but cool nonetheless).

is Nintendo in a mood to sue? :ninja:

didn't nvidia do this already with shield?
It does part of it, and not well ( you can see some reviews to notice the lag when it is streaming...)

This one will only stream, will have a bigger screen, probably better controls then the shield (what's not very hard to do), and probably better battery times.. ..so, it has it's pros

WiiU GamePad streams the WiiU and tv signal ...this thing streams the pc, steam, ps3, xbox 360, ouya, tv signal.......

One more reason to buy the product :tpi:

$350 for the Kickstarter model with support for a single system, $410 for two system support, and the retail versions will probably be more. It's a bit steep. I sort of see why, but still.

And why, other than the nostalgic infatuation with cartridges, does console support have to be done through hardware addons, and why can't it be done in software? Does every new console use completely new communication hardware or something?

So it's a knockoff of the Wii U gamepad that's more expensive than the Wii U + Gamepad itself?
Seems legit.

Two problems. The most obvious being that software implementations would require the support of―and a license from―the console vendor. The second being technical limitations. Streaming HD video over WiFi is difficult without introducing serious latency because it usually requires compressing the data (and decompressing on the other side). Even technology like WiFi Direct is as high as 60ms, could be higher when not under optimal conditions. Also, iirc, WiFi Direct is implemented in hardware that current generation consoles probably don't have (but the PS4 and XBox One might). Other technology, such as WHDI, can achieve ~1ms, which is much better for gaming because the stream is uncompressed.

Video streaming is done via the video streaming doohickey that plugs into the HDMI port on the console and transmits that signal to the tablet. There's no need for support on the console side. I was talking about the controller aspect. The game paks (cartridges) are hardware support that lets the tablet act as a 3rd party controller for the console. But if all controllers communicate via Bluetooth, why do they need additional hardware support, and why can't that support be rendered through software?

Ah, sorry, I should have read the project page more thoroughly.
