is it possible to emulate a DS game to run at a higher resolution that normal? like how we can emulate the Wii to run in HD through an emulator, is it possible to get a similar effect for the DS?

sorry if that has already been asked.

Wii (any older consoles, like PS1) games in higher resolution are only possible with 3D games, as it's only coordinates and textures.
If the game include bigger textures than the TV/Hardware can print, then emulators looks better in enlarges size because the texture fits the coordinates better without a zoom-out (Like Xenogears on PS1).

While for the DS it's mainly graphic tiles applied on given 2D coordinates and then zoomed to take fullscreen. These kind of games will always look the same. Only filters can be applied to make it look less ugly in zoomed mode (2xSAI, etc.)
It "could" be achieved for 3D games, but I don't know how these games are rendered by the console.

3D on the DS in my experience is less about textures (although they do exist, have extensive support and are used more than enough to be worth knowing about) but lean more towards material colours so you would probably then be making your own textures and before that you would probably have to deal with models being [insert charitable way of saying the 90's 3d did better]. This being said the 3d hardware is somewhat apart from the rest of the hardware (one of the reasons in hardware savestates on the DS are not that good and likely never will be) so hooking into it on the emulator side of things would probably not be terribly annoying.

As Cyan said nothing stopping a more conventional upscaling method/filter from being used though (sai, supersai, eagle and the like).

I though it wasn't possible to render ps1 games at a higher resolution because of the method it used for 3d :wtf:
Ah, maybe it's not a real higher resolution, but 3D models and texture look nicer on emulators. (of course it's still not High res texture, but it's a little better)
Well, I remember only xenogears textures. If it was a zoom of the rendered 576i, then it would look as pixelated as on TV, even for 3D models. but on emulator that game's textures were better, like un-zoom-out, and 3D models seems redrawn in full size, not zoomed.

On emulator, we could read Lahan on the town card, which is not possible on TV.

Compare 2D mecha on emu (zoomed to fit size) with 3D mecha on emu (redrawn or zoomed?):

However since it has more pixel per inch, shouldn't it be stretched ?
Not in a good way. It's blurry and it's not what you want, as it doesn't increase internal resolution. It's only slightly higher too.

Nope, looks like this sort of thing is very low priority for the emu devs.

Someone toyed around with it earlier this year, but they didn't really get it working right and I don't think they have any plans to mess around with it anymore:

Oh man, I didn't know the difference would be so great. If more devs saw that page, we would probably have that feature implemented already. It looks almost as good as a 3DS game :O
