I'm having some trouble with my CFG loader. I want to be able to put all of my homebrew/backups on my HDD, but for whatever reason, it refuses to download/load disk covers from the HDD, just the SD, which I use for my 3DS only because of its capacity and compatibility, and because I just don't want to have to switch where I put the SD card all the time.

Does anyone know of a way to make CFG Loader load covers from the USB drive?

Try using the configuration tool to change the path? I don't use CFG loader myself but I know that's where most of the settings are found.
In USB Loader GX this is easily achievable by changing the path in the settings. Funnily enough, USB Loader GX seems to be more configurable than Configurable Loader, I found CFG loader to have limited configurability. Most of the options are related to themes...

Which path, though? It already sees my games, so that's not the problem. The problem is where it's looking for the cover data, and I don't see a setting for that. The only reason I'm not using GX is because of the problems I've been having with it. I think I got it to work once, and I hadn't changed anything. It went right back to not working after I quit the game. Wiiflow is also problematic, Wii games will crash at random parts and Gamecube games just don't work.

I'll double check again, but I don't know if I'll find anything.

On whatever drive you are running cfg from, add/edit the following lines in x:\usb-loader\config.txt

covers_path = sd:/usb-loader/covers
covers_path_2d = covers_path
covers_path_3d = covers_path/3d
covers_path_disc = covers_path/disc
covers_path_full = covers_path/full

Just change the sd:/usb-loader/covers to usb:/usb-loader/covers (or wherever you are placing the cover files). You can change the path with the configurator (global options 2 tab), just editing the txt file is easier IMO.
Do you have just a single fat32 partition on your HDD? You'd likely need to look into how to reference a specific partition if you have more than 1 (and FAT32 isnt the first).

Note: if you have a config.txt in "X:\apps\USBLoader" you'd need to edit it there. Pretty sure it can exist in either path, mine is in x:\usb-loader

Never changed that particular path myself, but Ive changed other things in that config file.
Info is taken from the guide I've always followed for modding: http://gwht.wikidot.com/configurable-options

Thanks. That's definitely helpful.

I only have one fat32 partition since WBFS format on a hard disk is pretty much obsolete. My backups will automatically install as WBFS files into the WBFS folder, and my SSBB disk broke into two files, and I'd assume the same goes for the other two or three games that have dual layer disks. I'm pretty sure that NTFS doesn't work for Gamecube backups, as I only got it to work once, and there were a few audio/video problems, especially in progressive scan mode.

Cover files are set in the original location, and for the record, if I had more than one partition, I know how to reference them :3

Thanks for the advice, though.

No worries.
Yep I've never used a WBFS partition and stuck to fat32 over ntfs as if it works (with wii backup manager or whatever to split larger games as you say), why change it. Only mentioned the partition thing as some people still seem to post some random setups fairly often :)

Just tried it, worked like a charm. I set the device to USB, and now not only do themes work, but it automatically goes to my USB device, and I changed another setting that makes it so that it runs all games from IOS 248 (who would have thought 249 would become obsolete?). Now that's three less things I have to worry about when loading my games. Thanks a bunch, Duckula.

Excellent :)
Strange it didnt find them itself if they were in the standard path, I guess its always good to directly specify config rather than rely on auto-detection.

Normally a version of d2x with base 56 gets installed to either 248 or 249, doesnt really matter what slot its installed to as long as the launcher is pointed to it. I beleive nintendo started stubbing 249 with some of the later official updates so they (tool/guide creators) just moved the 'standard' slot used down one :)

Makes sense, I guess. I installed d2x on base 57 since 58's taken by the HBC, and I heard base 57's better, anyways. The main problem I have with my black wii, though, and this doesn't happen with my white wii, but the black wii always replaces 249 with a stub if a disk is placed in. I can't even stop it with priiloader.

Also, this usb loader won't work without the obsolete 249. Pretty annoying when I want to play my backups on the black wii, but whatever.

Anyways, thanks again for your help. Have a nice day.

I dont have anything installed in 249 on either of my Wiis (just d2x base 56 in 248 and base 57 in 247, have never needed to use the base 57 to run a game tho) and cfg loads fine , just need to set the IOS in the meta.xml:

On any machine, open SD:/apps/USBLoader/meta.xml in your favourite text editor and do the following:
  1. Find the line </app> towards the end of the file.
  2. Depending on which ios you want to use as default (248 is recommended) add one of the lines below before</app>:
    • <arguments><arg>ios=248</arg></arguments>
Taken from the 'meta.xml steps' section of http://gwht.wikidot.com/usb-loader

You really went above and beyond. I wish I could give you brownie points for these replies.

But yeah, I currently have base 57 on 248 since I have something else in 250/251 (forgot what, but I know it's important). I'll go ahead and check next time I use my black Wii for backups.

Now, while you're here, if I could get you to solve the problem I'm having with loading gamecube backups on that same black Wii, I'd be immensely satisfied...but I sort of forgot what exactly the problem is. I haven't used that thing in a while. It's something like backups refuse to load, or that they get stuck on the dios mios screen. I think I accidentally bricked that wii once. Horrifying experience. It's really a troublesome console, I've never seen anything like it.

Aren't all colored Wiis (except the Wii mini) supposed to be the same? Apart from the optical drive and the boot blocks, I mean, and the obscenely obvious. Pretty sure the holiday bundle's different, too. Other than that, though, aren't they supposed to be the same? My black Wii gives me loads of trouble.

Haha, I'm at work. Console stuff is more interesting than fixing servers for schools :)

I'm much less familiar with GC loading, but you should be able to use dios mios on any wii in the same way (apart from the ones with no gamecube ports on top).
I'd start with just reinstalling the latest version of dios mios on your black console and using the config (sd card, hdd contents for cfg) that work on your other console.

I have played some GC games via CFG and an old version of dios mios. It worked but often would just launch to a black screen, rebooting the console and trying again always worked.
Theres not a lot of GC games im interested in so havnt bothered to look into it more. I'm sure someone else would be able to help if you post a detailed description of the issue and a report showing what IOSs you have installed/patched.
