I have the italian book extracted from the ps3 game. I think it's similar than the ds book version, so when I'll share the patch, I'll share the book too.

I know this is not the best place for such a request, but the English project isn't advancing by much, other than Zkarts, our graphical editor, being really awesome and even translating as he edits the images some simple Japanese words even if it's not nearly enough. And superfranci99 helped us with a tool to automate bmd0 processing, but I couldn't really get around to test it (I know Crystal Tile with 256x128 GBA 8bpp and figuring out the palette, is enough, but his tool helps greatly).

Main reason is that we have now zero active translators from Japanese.
mrgone helped us with the context file and I'm really grateful for him. However all other translators involved have abandoned the project either due to real-life concerns (OkuRaku) or suddenly without leaving any longer updates (scott.ender). Brian joined to review/check the translation, but as things stand now there's nothing to review.

Other than that, pleonex extracted most, if not all of the text files; and most of the graphical text (There's a lot of beta text graphics so it's hard to tell what's used and what isn't). I did help with some of the graphical editing (mainly the fonts to add the Layton font and some of the small battle fonts (for whom credit mainly goes to ouioui), and some of the menus)
Only thing stopping us now is the translation part.

So please, if you know Japanese and love this game, help us with this project.
Thanks a lot and sorry for the unexpected development (and most of all this late update).

Once we have translators ready (this game is huge script-wise, and different enough from the PS3 version this is a problem) we shall create a new topic for the English translation.

On my side, the french translation is on progress.
We have done about 70% of the graphical work, and all the textuals things expect story.
i have begin the translation of the story,
i suspect that, in the DS game, Oliver's mother doesn't die like on the PS3 !!!

Here is my reading of the Drippy/Oliver dialogs in the Oliver's room:
She caught a cold in cold water, and she's in coma. Noone know how to cure it, and Oliver can just cry/pray and wait in his room.
Her soulmate is trapped in the "realm of darkness" in Ninokuni and this is why the mother's soul is trapped in ice.
Oliver must release the sage to get things back to normal.
So, on DS, Oliver accept to go to Ninokuni to cure his mother, not to bring her back to life !

Is there someone fluent in japanese that can confirm that point ?

This new vision solve the confusion i have when playing this game on the PS3.

When you, superfrancis99, have translated the story in the Oliver's room, do you have taken the PS3 textuals things and put them in, or do you have translated correctly the DS texts ?
Same question for the english version to Ghanmi ?
And if there is someone from the spanish project here, same question again !

For now I've translated only a little bit of the story (I'm focusing in the graphic and in the other text files). I have taken all my dialogs from the ps3 version, but if your guess is right I have to throw in the rubbish my work. Maybe I can ask to a new member of my team (that is quite fluent in japanese) if it's right.

Fortunately, It's not necessary to throw away all things.
This little adaptation modify only the Drippy dialogs in the Oliver's room, and some cosmetic texts probably when Oliver save the Allie's soulmate Alicia.

But in that version, the game has a happy end (Oliver save his mother). In the PS3, this goal is not really done.

And some confusions are solved from the PS3 version. Just some for the example:
- Why Alicia is still alive in Ninokuni if Allie is dead ?
- If Alicia has troubles, it must have some effect on Allie, like all others characters : The cat and the king of dingdongdell, the queen and Leila, Esther and Myrtle, ...
and at last Oliver and Shadar

I really think that the "Official" translation team for the PS3 has made a mistake on that , or the developers of the PS3 version decided to go to drama...

"Il mago corvino" Is the italian "official subtitle" ?

The English translation of the original Japanese Subtitle is "The Jet-Black Mage", which in Italian is translated to "Il Mago Corvino".
"Ni No Kuni" is kept in Japanese even in the italian PS3 version.

It is still to understand if in the italian version of the PS3 game the figure of the jet-black mage is translated in a different way instead of "il mago corvino" (I don't even remember who is this mage!).

P.S. I don't know Japanese, and in some sites it is translated to "The Jet-Black Sorcerer" which in Italian is "Lo Stregone Corvino".

Further investigations lead me to think that the figure called "The Jet-Black Mage/Sorcerer" is Shadar!
I've found also informations about a temporary official title of the english DS version as "The Sorcerer of Darkness", and being Shadar the main enemy in the DS version I presume they are talking about him.

Looking at the informations this way, the correct italian subtitle is "Il Genio Nero", which is the italian title related to the character of Shadar in the PS3 version. :)

Yeah, you're right !!

So you lost the detail that the black color is a shinny one ("jet"), but it's ok like that, because in french, we lost it too with "Le mage des ténèbres".

It's probably related to the title "Black djinn" which is in the English version of Ni No Kuni (PS3). In the italian Wrath of the White Witch Shadar is called "Il genio nero".
