Nintendo Virtual Boy fans who are lucky enough to own a Flash Boy should be happy to know that a Street Fighter project is in the works. The released demo features 4 fighters, 4 stages, and many familiar sound effects. Unfortunately for emulator fans, this game is currently only functioning on actual hardware. This game is shaping up to be of commercial quality, something that fans of the series will want to experience. If only Nintendo had managed to relaunch the system, this game could have easily been among the unreleased generation-2 software line-up. If you have the necessary hardware, grab the demo from the download link below and give it a try. If you do not own a Virtual Boy, then post your comments about Street Fighter, homebrew, or the amazing things packed into this game. If you are generally negative and think you know about the Virtual Boy because you read an article once, or watched the AVGN review, please don't comment.

Update 8/27/13
An update to the multi-system emulator, Mednafen, has just been released. It reportedly can play the Street Fighter demo. Grab it HERE.

That looks sweet! the virtual boy was among my favorites, just wish it had a better lineup. I still stand by teleroboxer as one of the great boxing games of all time. I put so many hours in that game!

I'd hate to be negative, but I have to say AVGN did have some valid points though. The thing isn't very portable, and you need to be in a weird position in front of a table to use it correctly.
And I don't know if it gives headaches as badly as some people claim but I'm sure there's some truth to that as well.

It's still a pity the Virtual Boy failed so hard, but it was just ahead of its time and the technology wasn't ready for it yet. If it had launched today with modern hardware (think Oculus Rift) I'm sure it would've been a great success.
Interesting to see homebrew is still being developed for the system though, just too bad it doesn't work on emulators since I imagine not too many people own a Virtual Boy, much less the flashcart required.
I'm not too interested in Street Fighter (or the fighter genre), but it looks like a faithful remake and I'm sure all Virtual Boy owners who are able to play it will enjoy it.

Is it going to be a true port of SF2 Turbo Hyper Fighting (with adjusted controls of course) or is just a SF homebrew with that name?

No this is an official Capcom release.....

Whether or not it's official has no bearing on whether or not he's porting over frame data and HF specific move properties (e.g. floating air tatsus).

It's a question because the sprites/backgrounds so far are ported directly from SF2 WW-HF and he chose the Hyper Fighting suffix amongest the million other Street Fighter titles.

Try not to be a prick the next time someone asks a legitimate question, because a HF port is exactly what this looks like, but I'm having a tough time believing because it's on a freakin virtual boy.

Oh wow, I didn't know people cared enough about this device to make homebrew for it.

Just for the lolz, I wonder if anyone made a media player app for it to watch movies and stuff. Would look like crap, but hey at least one could say they had the first head up display media player.

But on topic here, If I had a Virtual Boy and was a fan of Street Fighter, this would certainly be something I would try. :D

... Seriously though...someone should create an adapter to plug in that gameboy camera add on, and code up a simple homebrew app for it. I bet that would be a fun experience trying to run around the house in Virtual Boy vision. Probably add photo taking ability to it. Recording video would be questionable on hardware that old, but hey go for that as well. If it can only do 2 FPS for only 10 seconds we can just say that's good enough since I guess that would technically be a video... :P

It would be hilarious as hell to see someone try and get the virtual boy to do what Google Glass does right now. Oh and don't forget to rig up that "Gun Sight" accessory made back in the NES days to it as well and then it will have voice command....Just like Google Glass! :D

Once done, call it "Nintendo Plastic".

Google has Glass, but Nintendo did it first with "Nintendo Plastic". :D (With homebrew developed 20+ years later almost. But that's how hipster Nintendo be. :P )

...

You know that I think about it, the Power Glove (another failed Nintendo product, but it was made by a third party company....so who knows) now lives on as the Nintendo WiiMote...So logically the Virtual Boy might get revisited with modern hardware. I would not be surprised if the next console (be it portable or otherwise) has something akin to the Oculus Rift the other user mentioned here, then I see another great hit for Nintendo. :D

I did read about the Virtual Boy somewhere, but it weren't all praise for the console. I doubt it to be as bad as they say. Why else would anyone care to make a homebrew Street Fighter for it?

I have one and no it wasn't all that bad.

On it's plus side it had a really good 3D effect and the graphics where well animated and detailed (fairly high res.) it was 32 bit so technically it was well ahead of the SNES in power but the library really didn't show it sadly.

On the negative side, it was difficult to use properly and I suspect that some of the headaches people experienced where due in part to neck strain via not having it set up on a table with the proper height and partially due to the 3D effect and partially from the red color. (The red color thing was hard on your eyes after a while.)

I could play it for hours but most of my friends could only handle small periods of play on it.

I think the thing that completely killed off the VB was the lack of color, by the time it came out people expected color LCD's and all that jazz. The reason for the lack of color was that the red LED was cheaper and making the VB in color would have added a lot of cost.

You are officially the second actual owner of the Virtual Boy to give it a positive review! I never had the opportunity to try one but wouldn't mind to. It has a pretty awesome controller too! And with a Street Fighter game pioneering its homebrew development, maybe it'll live again!

I still have my Virtual Boy. I loved it and continue to play it to this day. Looks like I'll have to pick up the Flash Boy too. I'd really love to get my hands on the Zelda game that Nintendo was reportedly working on for the Virtual Boy, but never released. IMO they gave up on it too soon.

i've never had an issue with the virtual boy. i've let people with severe motion sickness play with it and they did not have issues either. i have always felt that the headache issue is overly exaggerated and its existence a rumor from the days of print-only reviews. headaches may also have been reported by users who did not understand how to properly adjust the IPD knob or from units that did not have their displays properly aligned. I recently read a post on planetvb where a user was experiencing headaches, after performing the alignment test it became clear the issue was with the LED displays. a quick adjustment of the hardware completely fixed the issue. back and neck "issues" i could see, but actual straining and lasting pain i can not. the height of the chair may not even be related since the vb can be rotated. however, they had planned an adjustable stand that would have completely eradicated comments of back pain from the virtual boy's history, yet it was never developed.

The reason for the lack of color was that the red LED was cheaper and making the VB in color would have added a lot of cost.

while the wiki articles seem to state it was cost related, i've read that blue and green leds at the time were not bright enough to produce the desired effect. shortly after its release they were, but by then the system was abandoned and the relaunch cancelled.
