Someone has once explained to me why gateway 3ds having a "free region" feature was so great news for us. And to be honest I seemed pretty convinced. To play games that were only released in other countries on our consoles is a great thing. As Ive seen this be a little bit helpful with the psp console for example. So my question comes: what games are worth the region spoofing? And would you really play a game in a language you know nothing of?

I want to play one piece, which is in english, but will likely never reach America. I shouldn't have to buy a europe 3ds for one game.

Edit: In fact most of the europe dumps out right now have english and several other languages.

Super Robot Wars UX. You dont need to know a lick of japanese to enjoy SRW. Ive even contemplated getting a J3DS just for this before.

Well, I'd say that the One Piece games (well, the Romance Dawn has been confirmed for Europe later this year) are being brought to Europe because in the US people mostly care about Naruto, however it seems like there was also a Naruto game released here that never got there, I wonder why. z.z

As for SRW, I love the series but as a mecha anime fan, one of the greatest parts of the game is the plot, just playing the game without knowing what they're saying ruins the experience, part of the charm of the series is how they manage to connect all those anime and manga series and still have it make sense.

Anyway, I used to have a reason to want the region free, however since all the games I wanted are now coming to Europe, I have complaint whatsoever. Even Senran Kagura and all the Atlus games are being brought over (by other companies), so I'm ok with waiting a bit.

Some games that are released in the USA are ether never released in Europe or take a long time to come here or vice versa and its the same with alot of games that are released in Japan
so why should i be forced to buy a 2nd or 3rd console to play just 1 or 2 games

Just look up the historical release dates for shit like Rune Factory to find out why people want it in Europe. And many, many games are worth playing even if you don't know the language fully.

No. This is something i did when i was young, and it was a pain in the ass, if i look back now. Yes, there were some interesting games only for release in Japan in my youth, as it is for today, but to not understand the whole story is bad enough. But games are also more complicated today as in the 80/90s - menus, commands etc.

In NDS times, region lock was not a problem. But i have to say, there was as good as no japanese game, i REALLY played more than a few minutes. It just dosen't make sence if you don't understand what's going on. Especially for RPG's, Strategy and Adventure games. And exactly these 3 genres are the genre of the most "Japanese-only-Titles"!

They do get released though, so what's the problem? z.z
I own all the Rune Factory games for the NDS and all the Harvest Moon games for the DS and GBA, it takes long, sure but they do get brought over. Besides, for anime fans at least, Europe has been getting more anime based games than the US, for the Nintendo 3DS at least and in their case it's not just a matter of waiting, it's worse because they won't get them at all.

Some logic to that, however the puzzles, basic platformer type things, the shmups, the action games, the simple games, the computerised versions of classic games, board games and known quantities (though it was translated and there is also a lot of homebrew there is a rather nice version of Lode Runner available for the DS) and things that could be figured out or explained easily and played from there all featured in spades on the DS. Whether this will be the case for the 3ds remains to be seen (most people doing good work there are doing increasingly good work on the likes of android and co or even abandoning the 3ds somewhat) but I can not imagine it will not be anywhere.

Similarly there were more than a few cases of Europe getting exclusives or superior versions.

The problem is that localisation delays are frankly archaic and - to me at the very least - completely unacceptable. If my options are to wait years for what will turn out to be the US dub and translation recycled and resold at full retail or to import/pirate years early I am going to do the latter.

And in the past the US has had an incredible amount of titles that the EU has never gotten, I am sure they can deal with not having some bland one piece games. But hey, region free would fix that anyway by allowing them to import the titles thus supporting the argument for region free.

I waited years back in the day for Super Mario RPG and Earthbound. They took 19 and 24 years respectively to be legally available. Waiting is not something I look kindly upon as an option.

The past and the present aren't the same thing, besides Unchained Blades which was released in the NA eshop, is the only game that actually interests me that isn't being released over here, Devil Survivor was the game that took the longest to be released so far, seeing as the other SMT and Etrian Odyssey are being released in a shorter time-frame.

Also, for an enhanced port of a game, it has been selling quite a lot: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=657297
Not only fans of the series but fans of the RPG genre will probably want to play it.

I never said I was in favour of Region Lock to exist, however I do not agree with a lot of people that use the Region Free as an excuse to pirate. Anyway, I'll say this again, the Nintendo of before isn't the same as the Nintendo as of now, they've been trying to increase the support in Europe and are even bringing several games themselves, like SMT IV over here.

I hate to break it to you, but not EVERYONE wants the 3DS to be region free. Obviously, if Nintendo put the region lock into place, then they dont want that. This is also a boon to developers. It lets them accurately keep track of who bought what where.

On home consoles region lock made sense in past when TV formats were differend but it's year 2013 and everyone uses standart HDTV and they even include HDMI with Wii U system...

DS wasn't region locked, DSi was partly locked and now with 3DS we are completely locked. It may have come down to one thing: publishers don't want you to buy same games cheaper on other region and nintendo just isn't sure how to prevent that so locking whole system works. Key reselling is actually pretty big business on PC side as if you manage to get hands on indian or russian copy they are usually really cheap especially on launch. Other consoles and digital PC stores does this region checking by just asking your country and TOS pretty much forbids using fake address. I have had japanese and american PS3 accounts for ages, they are still up and running and I'm happier to give my money to devs instead of pirating games becouse of region locks.
Of course nintendo responded with "parental controls" which is minor problem with differend rating systems but if they are so afraid why they won't just add option to disable other region games on parental controls settings then?

As for other region games at the moment there's only Project Mirai titles but there's always some awesome exclusives at other regions which someone wants to get, some regional differences (VLR had english dub on US release) and sometimes it takes ages to get game to other region (I'm looking at you Atlus!)
Region locking made me wait for long before even considering 3DS when it launched becouse the fact that I wouldn't be able to play games if they were on differend region even if I have bought system!
