I am debating on this. Right now i got a normal 3ds abmassador status with 4.5.0-10u and just got a 3ds xl with firmware 4.5.0-9u. I am planning to have a unit with gateway possibility and the other one for normal retail game like link and AC5. I am considering keeping the xl as 4.5 and updating the normal 3ds for new game. But after playing around with xl, i am not sure i can go back to normal 3ds XD.

Anyway, if you choose, would you choose a normal 3ds or a 3ds xl if u are going to bring it out of the housing and playing it outside the house? Another question concerning my xl, I am comparing it to my normal 3ds. I do not know if it is me but the screen look a bit different.. not sure how to description it. It is like when you are holding a normal 3ds, as long as you are not in 3d mode, you can move the screen around without much issue. However, on the 3ds xl, when i move the screen around, it look a bit... off. It is like light dark light dark like that. The screen look perfectly fine when it is still. Is this how it is suppose to be like?

I'd go XL all the way, given the choice. I have a normal 3DS and I love it, but for someone with gorilla hands like me, the bigger size is definitely a plus as my hands don't cramp as often, also the circle pad on the XL is made of a different rubber than the normal 3DS from what I can tell, and it doesn't collect oils as easily and as such doesn't get slippery like the original one does.

It sounds like you have your 3D turned on to the lowest possible setting on the XL, where the switch is moved down all the way but not clicked to off. You have it physically clicked into the lowest position, right?

Thanks for the button advice! I mean if you are going to choose, would you rather have the normal 3ds as gateway unit or 3ds xl as gateway unit?

Well assuming one is going to be used as a gateway unit and one as a legit unit, I think the answer lies within whatever you expect is going to get more use.

Do you plan now on playing primarily pirated games? Or do you plan to play mostly legit games with the occasional Gateway gameplay thrown in?

I'd use the XL for whatever you plan to do more, personally.

I have 7 regulars and one XL at the moment.

All this talk about the Gateway, and nobody thinks to just wait for the next cards. The dam has a hole in it now. Wait, because the firmware won't keep up with the dedication of those who just want free games. Oh, and "homebrew" too.

Both the 3DS and the 3DS XL have a led behind their LCD screens for brightness. Of course, this method is not perfect, so the pixels brightness change as you change your angle view. I am guessing that it's much easier properly iluminating a smaller screen since you need less light. And I remember reading at a Iwata asks that they use a trick in the 3DS XL to save some of the power that would be consumed by the XL's larger sreens.

I would want to have one of both, a 3ds and a 3ds xl. The 3ds xl is too big for me and would like the normal 3ds because it is more handy. I have the 3ds xl because of its bigger screen though.
