anyone got a solution for atheros chipset cards disabling the virtual hotspot whenever the MAC is changed?

mine is atheros AR5007EG

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

doesn't work, returns an error "The hosted network couldn't be started.
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."

as soon as i change the MAC to original, virtual hotspot (wireless connection 2) reappears.

MAC changing program doesn't change the result. (tried several programs, registry edit, changing MAC from device settings etc.)

Dont suppose anyone has got it working on a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000?

Also, when you spoof the MAC, which device do you use?
I'm getting internet through the LAN, the wireless card (Which isnt connected to anything), and the virtual wifi miniport (Which is the attwifi AP)
I tried spoofing the LAN MAC, but it just wouldnt connect to the internet then, and I tried spoofing the wireless card and the virtual wifi miniports, but I still havent got any streetpasses, though I did find it thought there was a Nintendo Zone nearby.

I can confirm that method A works on my Windows 8 laptop. My laptop's connected to my router with a cable. Dunno if it would work without. This also works in combination with the script, although you currently need a separate command prompt and enter the "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" command after every MAC change to restart the virtual router. And yeah, there's no way to confirm it works outside of the green light popping up, since you can't connect to Nintendo Zone.
Most built-in wireless network cards could multitask. They're able to connect to the Internet and be an AP at the same time.

elridge does not work I have done as you put your in the tutoring I followed the step to 100% and does not work wait for you to take out a new method but thank you again in advance for decyl elridge

Check the usual suspects:
1) Disable all other connections from your 3DS network settings, so it can only connect to the attwifi.
2) Check that you are spoofing the MAC of your real wifi card and not the one of your virtual one.
3) Check that you are running the command line prompt with administrator privileges.
4) I only got this to work using a wired AND a local connection: Wired connection should be plugged in, wireless connection should be free (not connected to any networks).

Did anyone have an idea why I still unable to get any stresspass till now?
Trying for a few hours already but still no luck at all
Did you remove all the connections from your 3DS network settings, so it can only connect to the attwifi?

Here's a screenshot, in can anyone can glean anything I'm doing wrong from it:
Hmm this seems similar to me.
Virtual Wifi is taking it's MAC from the free "Wireless Network Connection 3". Spoof that card's MAC and try again.
If that fails, I would suggest you to disconnect all wireless connections and connect to the internet with your local area connection. Of course, you will have to change the "shared connection" setting on Virtual Router Manager and try spoofing both "wifi" and "wireless network connection 3", to see wich one the virtual wifi is taking.

Never thought of that (since #3 is just another virtual connection lying around for some reason)! I will try it.

Try my script. I've updated it to work on Atheros chipsets. Dont hesitate to PM me or post here if it doesn't work! I personally use broadcom so I can't test.

MAC Cycle is now version 3. (updated for atheros)

I tried without the wired connection by now and it doesn't work. My 3DS gets a connection to my laptop, but it won't connect to the internet. I have a fairly new laptop as well, an Acer Timeline Ultra M3.

@luyaoting : The folks on Thailand have japanese 3DS? What MACs and SSID are the folks on the asia using? I have a japanese 3DS that could use some pink pieces on a new panel that was launched last week.
Thanks in advance.
Taiwan is different from Thailand.
Although there is a Taiwanese/Hong Kong version 3DS, most people in Taiwan use Japanese 3DS.
(Because of the region lock, Taiwanese 3DS only has a few games.:( )
I've suggested people to use "attwifi" and "4E:53:50:4F:4F:46" in a Taiwanese forum.

Wireless Network Connection 2/3 are both virtual wifi miniports to me. Only Wireless Network Connection is my wifi card.
I notice I cant even spoof Wireless Network Connection 2/3's MAC address anyway though, it only lets me spoof my wifi card and my LAN (Though when I do it for the LAN, the internet doesnt work).
I also noticed Wireless Network Connection 2/3's MAC addresses are both identical and very similar to my Wi-fi card's MAC Address, its basically +1 at the end of the MAC address.

However, I didnt know you needed to delete your other internet setting though, I tried that now and it doesnt work still.

I think something like this may work on my android, however I cant find any file containing my real mac address.
I'm on HTC Desire and I flashed a Jelly Bean Rom to it.

it still doesn't work unfortunately, as soon as your script changes MAC, my virtual hotspot disappears.

You don't have to spoof the virtual connection's MAC, you just have to spoof your actual wireless network card. Try deleting one of the two virtual ports, so you can be sure which things you are using and help isolate the problem.

If it's just another virtual connection, try disabling it, so it doesn't interferes.

I removed the second wifi virtual miniport in device manager. No problem there.
Still can't get streetpasses. If I look in tmac and click on virtual wifi, I see under active MAC address: "88-53-2E-0B-74-5E (Inactive: 4E-53-50-4F-4F-46)" ..is this the same for people with it working, or is this the crux of my problem (and again, it'd be nice to see if someone else can spoof that MAC and get my mii, then I'll know for sure the problem is the virtual wifi is not taking the right MAC) The Wifi connection shows 4E-53-50-4F-4F-46 as active.

Tested on both Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8 64-bit, both in spanish. Virtual Router didn't work because my OS language is not english so I used Connec8. These are the steps I took to make it work:
  1. Spoof MAC using MACShift (macshift -i "device-name" <MAC>)
  2. Create a Hotspot using Connec8 (SSID=attwifi, KEY=<anykey>)
--Steps 3, 4 & 5 must be done only the first time this is to share the internet connection to the 3DS--
  3. Right click on the connection that has internet access (wired, 3G, etc) and then on Properties
  4. Clic on the Sharing tab, then on the checkbox "Allow..." and then select the name of the adapter that is the Virtual WiFi miniport, then on OK
  5. Setup the hotspot on the Nintendo 3DS, test the internet connection to verify everything is OK
  6. Close the 3DS and wait for the Streetpass magic!
To cycle through different MACs:

  1. Press X then Enter on Connec8
  2. Spoof MAC using MACShift
  3. Press 1 to restart the hotspot on Connec8
To terminate the connection:

  1. Press X then Enter on Connec8
  2. Press ctrl+c to quit
  3. Return to your original MAC (macshift -i "device-name" -d)
Note: Streetpass relay works but you can't access the Nintendo Zone content through the app

DAMMIT! I was close but I disabled the new hotspot on my pc (my mistake) and not it don't appear anyomore. I shut down the PC but it does not return, tipical, probably it would have worked but I ruined it.

Try restarting the Virtual Router Manager, to see if it refreshes the Virtual Port's MAC.
