Hello guys,

I just received the Gateway 3DS, and I'd like to update my 3DS safely. I heard you can update to 4.1 - 4.5 with a retail game. I just don't want to mess up. So could someone tell me the steps please? I'm afraid of updating to 6.2. And I think it will be also useful for others.

Thank you^^

Start any newish game that isn't Mario & Luigi on your system. Something like Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong, and most other games released this year.

EDIT: Found a list
Firmware 4.5.0:
Animal Crossing - New Leaf (Europe)
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (Europe + USA)
Fire Emblem - Awakening (Europe)
LEGO City Undercover - The Chase Begins (Europe + USA)
LEGO Legends of Chima - Laval's Journey (Europe)
Luigi's Mansion 2 (Europe + USA)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Gates to Infinity (Europe + USA)
Shin Megami Tensei IV (USA)

Thanks for your answer.

So actually I just need to put my game into the 3DS, turn on the Wifi, start the game, and then it will update to 4.5? Why won't it just update to 6.2 directly?

Great I have Shin Megami Tensei IV:) do you have a source for this please?

DON'T TURN ON YOUR WIFI! The firmware is on the game, not downloaded. SMT IV has been said to work in one of the Gateway threads.

Also, you an importer? Must be expensive for you

Turning on wifi: updates you to 6.2.
Putting in SMTIV: updates you to 4.5.

And source: http://pastebin.com/wtf73u02 (whoops, forgot it's not dumped yet)
It's also been confirmed by a bunch of people here.

Thank you very much for your advices TyBlood^^

Yeah most of my systems are American. Actually it's not very expensive because I'm living in China and most the games sold here are American or Japanese. the resellers import them from Hong-Kong or maybe buy them directly from the factory making the cartridges, but I'm not sure about that, just my guess since the games are propably made in China. Sometimes it is actually cheaper than Amazon or same price when it's a popular game. The only problem is there's no discount and no free shipping. I think it's also cheaper sometimes because they have a lot of stocks.
