I just placed the pre-order on my Xbone today and I'm really hyped for the official release ^_^
Can't wait to have that Day 1 achievement sitting on my tag as well~
I was wondering if anyone else had the Xbone pre-ordered?
Also have you decided what game you're gonna pick up first? Titanfall looks amazing so that's probably the first game ill be picking up~

No games interest me, except Kingdom Hearts 3 and FFXV, which are also on PS4. But I'm gonna stay PC until my laptop starts to have trouble playing games.

People are actually preordering this? WTF? I'm sorry if I offend some people though; I never liked how Microsoft got into the game industry. They made operating systems while Nintendo made game systems. But to each his own: I hope those of you who order this thing will get your money's worth.

I wish Destiny was a launch title. I'm so freaking excited for it. If Only Bungie still made halo... Every time I think of the new trilogy of Halo I cry ;-;

According to my brother, Halo 4 is the best one story wise, it's pretty deep with the history of the flood, humans, forerunners and all.

I've always had trouble getting into the lore of any science fiction setting short of ST:TNG. Compared to how TNG tried to focus on the actual science as opposed to the fiction, most other things (Halo, especially) end up seeming like fan-fiction written by teenagers.

Mass Effect was cool, though.

I usually hate it when they get into the science, mostly because I don't understand it :P
Halo might not go deep into the science, but they've got a pretty serious universe going on. It might not be scientific, but it's definitely laid out nicely. I've read the books and those are very well written and explain so many things that are left out of the games.

I never liked how Microsoft got into the game industry. They made operating systems while Nintendo made game systems.

They made directX (probably the single most important library/standard in all of gaming), before the xbox they made a very nice line in game controllers/joysticks (see the SideWinder line) and they have long had game studios under their wing/acted as a publisher (into decades at this point). Microsoft are many things but I can not get behind a claim of them being upstarts as far as games making goes.

As for the xbone. I never preorder a console/get in early as it is a far too risky venture and doubly so in 2013 when my PC will likely be able to outstrip it if I want it to. A friend ordered one though so I will doubtless be getting a little look at it all.

My friend read the books as well and enjoyed them. Perhaps they were executed well - but the games were not. I gave zero shits about what happened to Master Chef and his friends - could not connect at all.

I guess it's a personal preference. I enjoy the story, but can't stand the game play. Well, I can't stand almost any FPS to be honest. :P

It is wise wait until gamescom, for PS4 and XBOX One.

What keep me from buying Xbox one right now is the fact of their steering wheel is not reveled yet. For my taste, only Forza 5 worth an intant buy.

About PS4, I'll get one ofr sure, but only about 1 or 2 years after the release because I had my Vita since day one and it wasnt a good experience.

Maybe not, but due to very different reasons. I've got my thesis coming next spring, so it's better to not have a new console dusting around the house when work needs to be done :P

I'll buy one when Kinect isn't included, since i'll either just throw it away or use it as an ugly paper weight.

Though regressions have happened before (Nintendo handhelds being a good example) MS seem to be pushing the Kinect hard this time around and being a known quantity (which is to say everybody that has one) it would be a somewhat more attractive option for developers. To that end it might be a while.

I am of the view that Microsoft with DirectX probably did more harm than good of the gaming community just because other operating systems can't use it and it has become a "you need to buy our latest os to use that feature" bargaining chip for Microsoft. however the others are things that microsoft did well one (flight sim especially) up until recently with the whole GFWL pc thing and requiring that all games they product require it. However I will not be getting a xbone unless someone buys it for me and I will be informing my friends that I don't want one in hopes that I don't. I believe Microsoft at this point as systemic corruption and is just on their way down.

Oh I am none too great a fan of the old embrace, extent, extinguish model having DirectX as one of its biggest victories at the cost of the then nascent 3d graphics API market for games (CAD and big boy 3d was and still is openGL country). On the flip side it was ripe for the plucking (at times the term S3 virge is likely to see me start rocking in the corner though it was not so common as other things that caused me hassle), equally to its credit much of its rise came not from a buyout and shady dealings as much as allowing developers to ply their trade and try as I might I can not knock that move on both the business and engineering fronts. That said for establishing Microsoft's credentials in the "they had nothing to do with games before the xbox" debate, as was the original intention of that post, I can not ignore DirectX.

Microsoft on the way out. I have read many great opinion pieces on the matter ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/29/microsoft_might_yet_win/ and http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/01/microsoft_kills_technet/ being two plucked from a quick search of my history) and I have no doubt they are in interesting times. I am not sure this thread is the venue for that discussion though.
