Hacking what are the odds gateway 3ds will lead to homebrew?

The title says it all. I'm considering getting a new xl with 4.5 or lower, but only if homebrew is possible in the future. also region unlocking would be nice. call bullshit all you want. I want homebrew, if you can't accept that then please dont comment.

Technically the Gateway is already homebrew because it is executing arbitrary code. But to get the kind of useful homebrew we all know and love with the DS scene ... more waiting is needed. The Gateway is definitely helping push things along imho though.

thats what i was thinking. I dont want to wait too long and never be able to enjoy homebrew. and yes i will play 3ds backups as well. and use my main xl for newer games. I dont want this to become like the whole ps3 thing where finding a system with the correct firmware is almost impossible

If some people can get access to some Gateway units, I think it could blow the scene wide open. Because it's the foot in the door the scene has been looking for, for ages. You get that deep access that this requires and you can start dissecting all the internal operations, and potentially finding ways to make code work on newer firmware versions.
