Precursor Games has returned to Kickstarter for a second chance at fundraising its Shadow of the Eternals project.

The original Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter was cancelled – temporarily – last month in order to take advantage of “exciting opportunities that will make the game better”.

For the original Kickstarter, Precursor was seeking over $1.3 million. The new campaign asks for $750,000 in funding.

Shadow of the Eternals is:
  • A single-player third-person action/adventure game with horror elements.
  • An 8-10 hour complete experience.
  • Multiple playable characters throughout different time periods of history.
  • Sanity events - special graphical, audio, and controller effects - will challenge your senses and your mind, causing you to question what is real.
  • Developed in collaboration with the community via an exclusive area on our forums.
  • Developed with CryENGINE 3 for PC (Windows) and Wii U.
  • Available via a DRM-free distribution method (for PC).
A bit more reasonable, right?

So it is no longer episodic? Tempting, somewhat tempting ...

That's how it seems. Curious where they got external funding from, but whatever. Much better that it's not episodic, but I'm still cautious with the reputation they've built since Eternal Darkness. Maybe if Miyamoto was involved like he was for Eternal Darkness I'd be on-board (but then it wouldn't require a kickstarter).

edit: Oh, you've got an account over at MR, don't you? Love the Zelda-themed portables.

The Kickstarter so nice, they tried it twice!

Anyway has anyone else noticed that they had to quote their own voice actor for the endorsements section?

"Playing the role of Paul Becker will be a blast as he is both complex and conflicted. I intend to provide gamers with a provocative and memorable experience on the roller coaster ride that is Shadow of the Eternals."
-- David Hayter, Accomplished Actor, Screenwriter and Director

That's definitely encouraging and doesn't scream desperation at all.

Pared down goals or no, after spending almost a decade just shitting the bed, I can't say I have any faith in this dev team. I really can't see myself investing in this project at all.

1.3 mill was the most hilariously unrealistic goal I'd ever seen. Maybe now they might make it, but they're still asking for a ton.
Hopefully they don't lose any more staff to child porn.

Look at this.
Every extra dollar raised beyond our initial goal will go directly into the development of Shadow of the Eternals. Each stretch goal that we meet will add more content and more functionality to enrich the experience of the game.

And now, as Precursor Games is an officially licensed PlayStation®4 developer, we have added the next-gen console as a stretch goal. Should we be fortunate enough to sufficiently exceed our target goal, we will work towards releasing Shadow of the Eternals on the PlayStation®4 platform. We hope that this is as exciting for potential PlayStation®4 buyers as it is for Precursor Games.

If your KS fails the first time, there's a good chance its gonna do the same thing the next time too.

Well they had a retardedly unrealistic goal and everyone knew it'd never make it, so why bother trying.

It has more of a chance now but...really it's still extremely unlikely.

As far as I've seen, the first week is generally where a gigantic portion of the funding comes from, the days after are just stragglers adding on a bit. So its not looking good for them...again.

Oh hell yeah.

I'd totally support funding of a unofficial sequel to a game that I feel is vastly overrated and would've been hugely ignored had it not been published by Nintendo. Oh yeah totally now where most of the key people the first game have gone and no one from Nintendo are there to say "dude, take that out...terrible idea". I think it's clever to put my money towards this company who can't manage themselves despite having millions in government hand outs. Oh yeah, this game will totally get made and won't be a huge disappointment to those who liked the first.

They had a TON of funding.
Too bad they couldn't manage their resources better. I highly doubt they needed 750k to realistically pump out a 10 hour game.
