My friend has one hes willing to let go of for cheap enough that even i am willing to get it. I have some questions that I feel you all can answer. All responses will be graded on content and helpfulness.

1. Gaemz. I looked though the library of games and I really didnt see anything that JUMPED out at me. I dont see and essentials list for the Vita yet, so i think im still allowed to ask what games are worth playing.

2. How are PSP games handled? Are all the PSP games available on the PSN store?

3.And if i already have a PSP UMD theres no way to verify that i have it and either rip it to the storage card or get a discount from the Store? I just have to buy it again, full price?

4. Hackmoding? I know this isnt the right section to ask this, but i figured i want to keep things organized. So from what I understand, PSP mode is "hacked" and available but you HAVE to have the right shop titles to allow for it? And if Sony takes it down i cant get to my PSP mode hack?

5. Now, i know that games are going to look better thanks to the awesome OLED screen. But what about PSP games and stuff. Are they upscaled at all? I remember someone (guild maybe?) saying that he redownloaded Dissidea 012 and the graphics were... enhanced? I could be totally off my rocker here.

BONUS: Why the fop is the white one so dang expensive? It looks amazing but NOOOO you have to pay $350 for it.

1-Imo maybe 2 or 3 games are worth getting so far but that is a personal opinion, ( i won't name them to avoid possible flame war )
2-The games run on a sand boxed emulator inside the vita. Only some games ( not all)
3-No verification for already bought games. Yes full price or discount if you have ps plus.
4-No. Only usermode hacks that only allow homebrew. The only hack so far that allowed psp isos is blocked on current vita firmware
5-Don't know, maybe someone else answer this one

5. Maybe it'll be more vibrant in colors and upscaled but i'm pretty sure that's all. It's not gonna be in higher res for sure.

As for games I can only suggest the 2-3 that I have found to be well worth the money you pay for them. They would be persona 4 golden, Soul Sacrifice, and Virtues last reward. however if grinding or monster hunter-esque games arnt your style there looks to be some really nice games comming up such as the new kill zone.

as for psp games they are about the same visually as they are on the psp. Some can be distorted a little but thats more for monkeying around with display settings I find.

edit: dont know about over there but the white one here is the same price as the black one

1. Gaemz. I looked though the library of games and I really didnt see anything that JUMPED out at me. I dont see and essentials list for the Vita yet, so i think im still allowed to ask what games are worth playing. It depends on what games you are looking for. I'm happy with the games on Vita since I have Persona 4, Disgaea series, Demon Gaze and other RPGs.

2. How are PSP games handled? Are all the PSP games available on the PSN store? PSP games look great on the Vita. Not all games are on the store. Most of Namco games are gone, and some of Square's are gone.

3.And if i already have a PSP UMD theres no way to verify that i have it and either rip it to the storage card or get a discount from the Store? I just have to buy it again, full price? Saldy no. PSP games are pretty cheap now but still...

4. Hackmoding? I know this isnt the right section to ask this, but i figured i want to keep things organized. So from what I understand, PSP mode is "hacked" and available but you HAVE to have the right shop titles to allow for it? And if Sony takes it down i cant get to my PSP mode hack? I don't remember much about how the hacking goes but if I can remember once you buy the game and save it on the Vita, you can use the hack for as long as you want unless you delete it. I don't think Sony can do anything about it since it's saved to your memory card.

Same as number 2.

BONUS: Why the fop is the white one so dang expensive? It looks amazing but NOOOO you have to pay $350 for it. I think the white Vita is rare now. The only way you could have gotten it was buying the Assassin Creed's bundle last year. You can import a white one but that's even more expensive.

If you're into indie games, the store has a decent collection of games.

Guacamelee, is something fun and different, and not available on any other system that I know of.
Retro City Rampage is available for a bunch of systems, but the Vita version is the cheapest (outside of the Steam sale).

Yeah, it really helps with certain games. I can't see myself playing God Eater on a PSP rather then the Vita...

Oh man that was one of the biggest turn offs to that game, having to move between so many buttons to move the camera. So its WAY better on the Vita, is that what you are saying?

you can also map the psps

That also sounds incredibly useful.

Hey Bortzy, i'll add my feeling to help you make up your mind about a VITA.

1. I suggest some essentials IMO : Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Virtue's Last Reward, Soul Sacrifice, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus 1 & 2, Persona 4 Golden and from PSN : Retro City Rampage, Dragon Fantasy Book 1.

2. PSP mode is handled with built in emulator and almost all PSP games are available on the PSN depending on the Store region used. Not Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep or Crisis Core that's all coming to mind as major titles missing.

3. Japan exclusive for the UMD discount, sorry..

4. AFAIK you need a specific PSN game and VITA firmware for PSP ISO's loading, not too informed so i'll keep it at that.

5. I found the bilinear filtering to blur the games too much, the brightness of the VITA is lacking and the colors are quite different from my PSP 3000. Up to your liking but expect a much different feel for your PSP games.

Conclusion, few killer games but a decent library, lots of indie titles on PSN, PS Plus available too and device price is fair, for such a piece of technology. VITA should find its meaning streaming PS3 & remote play PS4 games sometimes later. Get it if you have the funds, best thing on my VITA i find are the PSOne classics, much, much better feeling than using them on the PSP, tons of buttons mapping options like the second stick for dualshock (also for PSP games), and a real feel of the 4/3 original games!

I appreciate what the Uncharted series is, but i really have no interest in playing them. Maybe sometime get GR, and id rather get VLR on 3DS if i really want it. Now Ninja Gaiden... that might be a buy. And probably persona 4. Whats DFB?

2. PSP mode is handled with built in emulator and almost all PSP games are available on the PSN depending on the Store region used. Not Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep or Crisis Core that's all coming to mind as major titles missing. So i guess i never really gave it any thought, the Vita is region locked?

3. Japan exclusive for the UMD discount, sorry.. lol dang

4. AFAIK you need a specific PSN game and VITA firmware for PSP ISO's loading, not too informed so i'll keep it at that. Doesnt really matter to me, as i have a PSP2K and only PSP mode is kinda available in the Vita.

Im really looking forward to having Dissidia 012 with decent camera controls, same with Gods Eater Burst. I also cant wait to play some PS1 classics again. Guess that means ill be starting FF9 tonight. I... cant believe how excited I am.

Now what would really slay me is that if we found out that the Vita was built like the PSP was (a almost portable PS1) and the Vita could virtualize Ps2 titles... zomfg.

Hi, Dragon Fantasy Book I is an old school RPG very similar to the first Dragon Quest games, with lots of humorous dialogues and situations. It is a bit expensive on the PSN though at 10$.

Website for it with a teaser : http://mutekicorp.com/games/dragon-fantasy/#

The Vita is not region locked but the memory card is Vita locked.. I mean, you will have to reset the console to its factory settings in order to change your Playstation Store registered account. I do have two account, a French and US PSN, and two 4GB memory card as one for each account. The resetting process is annoying and takes about 5 to 10 minutes, so it's best to stick to the store you use the most.. US in my case, French lacks too much content and always late to the party.

Now the custom buttons mapping for some PSP games is a must, and the PsOne classics really do breath a new LIFE on that sexy screen, i guarantee you. :)

i´d suggest you to get/buy persona 4 the golden, gravity rush and guacamelee,i think those are the greatest games so far, excluding the indies and PSN games.
it´s a pretty good handheld, it doesn´t has a load of great games like the 3ds, but some are quite amazing.
i´d go with the white version......

Persona 4 Golden, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Assassin's Creed, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (I don't care what people say - it's a fun game), Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, soon Valhalla Knights 3 and Ys: Memories of Celecta... But most importantly, a PSPlus subscription, especially if you also have a PS3.

2. How are PSP games handled? Are all the PSP games available on the PSN store?
All PSP games that ever saw a digital release are on the PSN store, but not all PSP games in general AFAIK.

3.And if i already have a PSP UMD theres no way to verify that i have it and either rip it to the storage card or get a discount from the Store? I just have to buy it again, full price?
No, but they're dirt cheap on PSN these days.

4. Hackmoding? I know this isnt the right section to ask this, but i figured i want to keep things organized. So from what I understand, PSP mode is "hacked" and available but you HAVE to have the right shop titles to allow for it? And if Sony takes it down i cant get to my PSP mode hack?
You need to purchase the PSN game in question and then download and install the exploit. To know the game title ahead of scheduled worldwide release, sign up on wololo.net. That being said, these hacks are useless to the average user - the benefits of having an up-to-date system with a PSPlus subscribtion active outweigh the benefits of playing PSP backups and homebrew in my opinion.

The games are upscaled however that doesn't seem to decrease their visual quality due to the high pixel density of the screen. They do look better on the OLED.

No idea. Perhaps because they're more unique and less of a fingerprint magnet?

Why it's worth it? So you can be a part of the Legion of Four Five Vita Owners on GBATemp. There's me, Foxi4, and..... and...... and...... damn, I can't recall :\

But in all seriousness, other than what others have said, remember this: Region-Free. May not be that big a deal for you though. Was undecided but this sealed the deal for me :P
