My little sister recently got really interested in watching One Piece. Since I had the first 91 episodes that I had gotten from a torrent on my computer, I downloaded a conversion program and have been transferring them over to her PSP a few at a time so she can watch them. Because I desperately need the space back on my hard drive, I've been deleting them from my computer as she watches them.

The problem is, somehow, a very large number of the different files have gotten corrupted or something because they aren't letting her watch them on her PSP. I don't have the originals anymore, and I would rather not spend a month or so re-downloading the torrent. (Also, because I don't have the available space on my laptop anymore.)

She claims that the internet browser on her PSP doesn't let her watch videos online. If it's anything like the one on the Wii, the most that she'd be able to watch are YouTube videos anyways, and nearly all of the episodes on there are removed due to copyright. I've hacked her PSP a while back so I can install homebrew on it for her. (She was interested in playing Mother 3, and I figured it would be a good idea to put an emulator on her PSP.) Is there anything that would let her watch the rest of the anime from a streaming site?

There used to be a program to do that, I have no idea what it was called now, but what it would do is download the .swf of the website, and then play them, it may have been called swfplayer or something.

You're going to need CFW.

If you don't know what this is, oh boy. lol

To install CFW, you can go here for excellent tutorials with the download files. If your PSP is already hacked, don't worry about it.

If your PSP is hacked, please tell us what your OFW (official firmware) and your CFW is. (Custom firmware.)
Also, what kind of PSP do you have?

This should work with all versions - it's an app called PSP Tube. I can't guarantee it though because I haven't tried it, but it should work. I couldn't find it on filetrip.

If you use this solution, you will need to monitor your little sister unless she's old enough or your family just doesn't care because it does have access to mature content within the plugin. As far as anything else more child friendly, there's none out there as far as I can tell from what I've seen.

Your only other option would be redownloading the torrent which you don't want to do.

I know that I hacked the PSP. I spent forever looking into it because I wanted to make damn sure I didn't brick it. However, it was so long ago, I don't exactly remember everything I did.

Looking under "System Information", it says: "System Software 6.20 PRO-B9" and "MAC Address [Model: 04g". Because of the files and folders still on my computer, (I save absolutely everything for backup. Better safe than sorry.) I'm going to assume that it's the Custom Firmware, so I'm not sure how to find the Official Firmware, if that's important.

I'm not entirely sure what kind of PSP it is. I know it's not one of those PSP Go systems, because it has a slot on it for putting the disc into.

Knowing my sister, I'm fairly certain that she'd only think of using it for watching One Piece, at least for a while. I don't think she knows any sites other than YouTube for playing video. Still, she's not completely stupid, so I'm pretty sure she'd figure something out.

Anyways, I'll look into both of those programs. If the swfplayer program is easy enough to get to work, I'll give that one a try. Otherwise, I'll have to make sure that it's alright to put the video player on her PSP. Thanks for the advice. I was kind of worried that she'd run out of episodes before I got a reply, she's going through at least five a day, and she's already at the point where she just has a single story arc (Drum Island) before I'm out of new stuff to put on there.

From what I've seen from looking up Go!Tube, unless I'm mistaken and am looking up a different program, it seems to have a lot of porn stuff and links put right in the open. I understand that if she wants to, she can find porn online very easily, but considering my little sister is in middle school, I don't really feel comfortable giving her a program that practically gives her directions to find it.

Even if it is outdated, shouldn't PSPTube work for what it's needed to do? I mean, as long as it gets done what it's meant to do, what exactly does Go!Tube have over it as an advantage?

(Forgive me if I sound stupid or ignorant throughout this. Other than hacking my sister's PSP using a step-by-step guide so that she could play with a couple emulators, the only other systems I've messed with like this were putting some emulators on my family's Wii and putting stuff on a DSTT card for my DS Lite.)

Uhm, there are some "porn-related" repositories, however you don't have to install them. PSPTube is discontinued and Go!Tube is its fork, it's based on the same code, it's just more up-to-date.

The way Go!Tube works is that it comes in two parts - one is the main application available from the Game menu which displays the movies, the other is situated in the Internet Radio section of the Online menu and it's where you select repositories you want to use. Repositories are online "search engines" which display results for you, so you can allow some and restrict others from being used - your little sister is entirely "safe from porn" if you set it up right.

The advantage of Go!Tube is that it "still works" while PSPTube... not so much 99% of cases.

Okay, I think I understand this now. I download the program, and add in the repository for sites like YouTube. Then, when she types in what she wants, it'll search the individual site to find the video, right? Well, what if I wanted an anime streaming site. The way the site I have in mind works is you go to a "master list" and pick out the show you want to watch, then pick the episode from the episode list, and then it finally takes you to a page with a couple different players to play the episode. It's not as straightforward as YouTube. Would the program still work for a site like that one? (I'm not sure if naming a straight anime-streaming site is against the rules. It is on some other sites I go on, and I'd rather not be wrong and get in trouble.)

Also, is there a main page for downloading GoTube? Everywhere I look, I just find random sites with download links, but they're all from 2010 or 2011. I'd really like to find something like the developer's official site or something to download it from.

I'm afraid that PSP development is pretty much dead, I believe v.1.2 is the latest. HMM edition will use 64MB RAM (for PSP-2000 or newer), the non-HMM one will restrict memory use to 32MB.

Here's the project page: https://code.google.com/p/gotube/

I also have a feeling you're overestimating the possibilities of streaming to the PSP - there's a few set repositories, but you can't stream from just any site you want, just the ones listed (you can restrict the ones you find unsuitable via the Internet Radio plugin). There are currently four maintained repositories, each has its own streaming sites that it supports. Adding new sites would require writing your own scripts which isn't an easy task. It's also worth to note that some scripts work with streaming, others force a file download which can be viewed later.

Needless to say this isn't a perfect setup, but it's the only thing the PSP can do in terms of streaming - implementing it is actually a pretty demanding task since the PSP does not support Flash nor HTML5 so it has to "fake it" with custom scripts.

Thought I'd bring it up here. I found an alternative way to get what I wanted. Rather than try to watch the videos directly on the PSP, I found a program where you turn on the video online while the program is running, and it automatically finds and downloads the video. You only need to run the first couple seconds of the video to give it a chance to find the file, but it runs fairly quickly. I'm just going to use that, then convert the resulting videos into something the PSP can run.

Thanks for all the help and advice anyways. I really appreciate the effort.
